Insurance for puppy

We are thinking about getting a puppy likely to be a crossed/mixed breed. Possibly jackaranian (Jack Russell + Pomeranian). Will try my best to look for a puppy from a registered breeder but cannot be 100% sure. Want to know from your experience which insurers are the best ones to go for. Honestly taking on a dog is not a decision that I Have taken lightly. But my daughter really wants one and I believe she will be benefited from it.

Don’t get a dog for your daughter.
Don’t think a registered breeder can’t be a puppy farmer. It is very likely to be with a mix like that.
Insurance. You need for life cover.
But honestly insurance is the least of your worries if you’re going to buy a puppy farmer terrier cross for a child. Confused

I've always had Tesco lifetime cover, but I never renew without negotiating because they jack up the price of renewals

@Wolfiefan don’t worry. It will be our family dog. My daughter is already 14 so she and I can share responsibilities for the dog. Though dd would want a dog since she was 8 but I was very reluctant to take on a dog as I don’t want to have to manage it all on my own with two young children. But now I think we are ready.

Don’t think she will take on the day in and day out care though. Mine woke me at 5 yesterday. One of them had been sick.
It’s a huge commitment.
And also rethink the crossbreed thing. Not that crossbreeds can’t be lovely. But why this mix? What’s the reason? What happens if you get the worst of each breed and the health problems of both?
Consider a rescue or a VERY carefully bred puppy.
Good luck.

@Wolfiefan we have tried rescue centres for a very long time but couldn’t get anywhere as often they want adult only homes etc. I know my daughter well. I trust she will take care of the dog well and proper. She loves animals very much. For that reason she has become a vegetarian for number of years now. In terms of mixed breed because I deliberately searched for mixed breed as want to avoid inbred dogs.

Wolfiefan · 21/07/2020 15:29

Crossbreed isn’t the best way to avoid inbreeding. Mixing two random breeds to produce cute pups can lead to big health issues.
A pup could live for 15 years. You absolutely can’t say a 14 year old will walk and feed and train a dog for all those years.
Why have rescues turned you down? VERY few say adult only home.

rocky1705 · 21/07/2020 16:09

No centres ever turned us down we haven’t had a chance to apply as every so often we search a dog in the local centres so often they want adults only homes. This is often the case. Or small dogs are very popular they just go very quickly.

rocky1705 · 21/07/2020 16:11

No matter what age of the owner you can say the same thing. Besides it will be a family dog. Not just her dog!

Wolfiefan · 21/07/2020 16:33

You need to rethink this sort of crossbreed. You really do. You won’t find one that isn’t from a breeder in it for the profit. With all the risks that brings.

Either go to a KC registered reputable breeder - but you may be waiting a year for a puppy as many have waiting lists.

Or keep speaking to rescues. Register where you can, fill in forms so you can be much quicker off the mark when new dogs come in.

Demand for dogs is MENTAL at the moment and there's loads of puppy farmers and scams cashing in on the demand.

Be patient with rescues, the easy to rehome dogs often won't ever make it to being online before they're rehomed. I know of one puppy that had over 600 applications.
