Have you given him cows milk? That can make them poo blood there not ment to have it??

LelsandZaffy · 28/09/2007 22:52

Yes he does go out, for an hour in the day..

he has had cows milk yes, he helped himself to some rice pudding left out!

Our other kitten doesnt have this though, his pooh is always normal

I dont think it always does that. My mums cats had cows milk every now and then for years and never a problem but I can remember a friend telling me her cat had been pooing blood and vet said it was because she feeds him cows milk. Does he have kitten food or cat food? Has he had his jabs?

I think its most prob down to cows milk though. Buy some kitten milk instead, they like that.

I think, like humans, some cats are more sensitive to lactose than others.

All our cats bar one have had cows milk without any ill effects which might explain why your other kitten is OK.

Let us know how he gets on tomorrow.

LelsandZaffy · 28/09/2007 23:03

Yes, he is a real gobbler, anything we eat he wants, if the kids brekkie bowls get left on the side, he wolfs it down!
He has a mix of dried and wet kitten food.

Definately keep him away from that now!! Thanks everyone..

Is it worth a trip to vets??? He is a really happy cat, all jabbed up and eats well etc.??

lelsandzaffy, dont worry, it just sounds like an enteritis or colitis, blood is common and if you see it as blood and not black poo it is unlikely to be coming from high up in the gut, just a very sore colon i would have thought. I would definately not recommend any type of milk for cats, its not good for them, they dont need it. I would suggest that you feed a bland diet, fish or chicken and rice. If you are going to the vets in the morning (i really think thats a good idea as if you leave it, out of hours calls are ridiculously expensive and its the weekend) they will probably give him anti biotics and possibly something to settle the stomach. They also sell and diet especially for poorly tums. If he has constant diarroeah, it could be a diet related thing and it might be better to feed a bland diet for a while, your vet will advise.

TBH I wouldnt bother unless bleeding persists. Just be a bit strict on what you give him to eat for a few days. Perhaps just dry kitten food and water/kitten milk. Poos should go back to normal and his poos will be harder not so runny.

Obviously if her carrys on with the bloody poos then take him to the vet on monday.

Im sure he'll be fine

x post.

Whenever my cat had diahorrea, we would feed him white fish and chicken with rice for a few days and this would get him back on track.

you could always try this and see whether he improves, but if the diahorrea is a recurrent thing, it might be worth taking him to the vet anyway to rule out anything more serious.
