More cuddly cat breeds

We had someone barge into our house today... A gorgeous little tortoishell cat who decided our bed was her new home whilst her owner waited outside for me to try and get her out. Hahw

Anyway it got us thinking about whether we'd like a cat. I admit I've always been dog mad but realistically we want kids in the next couple of yeare and my husband works long hours so don't think I'd have the time to care for kids and a dog and wouldn't take one on unless I knew I could provide what it needed so thst ideas been pushed back 10 years.

But I love cats too. But are there any breeds that are more affectionate. I miss having a fluffy friend (grew up with dogs). Please don't judge me in any way for knowing nothing -this is a discussion that only started today and it wouldn't be for at least six months as we want to move and wouldn't get a cat til after that.

Any advice on where to even start.

I have looked at some rescues but they seem all out of cats due to lockdown. But I reckon there will be a lot in rescue by year end.

Thanks

Consider adopting an adult cat - if you tell the rescue you'd like a cuddly companion they can match you up with one.
A specific breed is no guarantee of personality (although traits are more common) so you may find your adorable kitten grows into an aloof hunter.
If you do go for a specific breed, check out the health conditions associated first and beware of Gumtree etc where every tabby kitten is apparently a Bengal Hmm

For example, this was my gorgeous boy who sadly died last year. He was a domestic longhair aka a moggie, but was super affectionate. We adopted him when he was 5 years old.

Agree with Pawz. We have 2 Persians who are bred to be lap cats. One want cuddles; the other wants to be right next to you but no cuddles. An adult cat whose temperament is know is a better bet.

You might want to move this to the litter tray where people will fall over themselves to show you pictures of their cats. Also bear in mind that cats do change. One of ours used to be scared of everything but now he comes in and curls up on our laps.

OK will move this to litter tray. Thank you

I'd say the opposite. Some breeds are naturally affectionate and if you get them as kittens you can pretty much guarantee they'll be cuddly if you raise them that way.

But cuddly and super affectionate often comes with 'demanding'!
