Neighbours and our cat..

Sooo wondering if anyone can help us out? We have a cat who is only recently ours, long story short he used to belong to another neighbour but decided one day to live at our home instead. All of the neighbours know our cat because he's a bit naughty, examples being; bites/scratches people who pet him for too long, going into peoples gardens and fighting with other cats. Just the usual cat stuff really.

Today I let him out of the house after he had finished his dinner, to hear the neighbours more or less on our doorstep shouting about how naughty he is for licking his lips and scaring the birds. About two minutes he had been out for, he was bathing himself the whole time. They then went on to say about how we don't let him out of the house. If that's what they think then whatever, they are wrong but it's not very nice to hear someone say that obviously haha..

What am I actually meant to do at this point? He is an outdoor cat and he will pick and choose when he goes out. The neighbour probably doesn't see our cat because he's scared of her, as the neighbour chucks water on him to get him out of her garden..thanks in advance! Smile

Ignore it. My back neighbours moans about my cat sitting on the fence and intimidating her dogs, who are now too scared to go in their garden. She's got 3 massive feckin rottweilers. My cat does have a bit of an anger issue, but come on, she's like 3 kg if that!

@MashedPotatoBrainz hahah oh dear! Sounds like ours a little actually Grin thanks for replying, think everyone's looking for something to moan about at the moment too Confusedx

He decided to live at your home?
Have you spoken to your neighbour about this or are you just feeding “their” cat?
Is he neutered and insured and microchipped?
And yes you can keep a cat in. Cats should be in overnight.
Either they think you’ve stolen it so haven’t been letting it out or they know it had been out and think it biting and fighting isn’t actually “normal” behaviour.

@Wolfiefan oh sorry don't think I made it clear enough, he is our cat he used to belong to one of the other neighbours, but as that neighbour has got a couple more pets our now cat decided to come into our house one day, and never went back. His owner knows about this and all of his information has now been changed to our names and address. There is more too it but that's kind of the ins and outs.

Is he neutered and chipped?
If he’s making a nuisance of himself can you cat proof your garden?

MuffinHead · 02/05/2020 15:53

@Wolfiefan yes and yes. Unfortunately we don't have a garden Confused

Maybe he doesn’t feel he has a “territory” then. Feliway can be good for anxiety I believe.

MuffinHead · 02/05/2020 15:57

@Wolfiefan okie dokes will look into that, thanks for replying!

@TheMandalorian @imsooverthisdrama I'm not sure which bit you're referring to? And it's not a reverse, our neighbour just seems to be funny about our cat..Hmm

It was the fact the neighbour complained that the cat was scaring the birds . It's what cats do Hmm
I get that people don't like cats but to complain to you , I'm not sure what they expect you to do .
Just getting odder some people sorry I know not helpful .

MuffinHead · 02/05/2020 20:46

@imsooverthisdrama haha reading back upon my original post I don't think I explained it very well to be fair Grin yes that's the thing, they are expecting us to do something but I think we have come to the conclusion it's out of our control and to take no notice haha. Thanks for replying!
