I need to travel to pick up my dog!

So a week before lockdown was enforced my mum was looking after my dog at her house due to us being away.... and was planning on bringing her back the following week. Then lockdown/travel ban happened....we live an hour and a half from eachother so obviously couldn’t travel. Me and the kids are missing her massively. It’s been weeks and I’m dying to have her back. Could we each travel half way and do a drop off in an open space? I’m worried I’m going to get stopped by police! Note that my mum is loving having her to get her out for walks and is an experienced dog owner. I know she’s safe and being looked after but it’s about time she came home. Any advice on this or should I just wait until lockdown is over?

I’d do it. Others wouldn’t.

Wait. You don't need to travel.

LochJessMonster · 24/04/2020 18:19

Just do it. What are the chances you are going to get pulled over by the police? Don’t take the whole family along, that’ll be a red flag. Go at normal rush hour times and they’ll think you are just commuting.

If you do get pulled over, most the time they are just giving warnings if you cooperate/

Is your mum on her own? Is the dog company for her? If so I think you should leave her there

Does your mum live on her own?
It would be a shame if the dog is her only company, at least you have your family with you.

I think it is a reasonable excuse, your dog is stranded, its not as if you are taking it backward and forward every weekend or something. Im sure I've read collecting pets from breeders is counted as reasonable.

Thanks. I was planning on travelling alone but it would have to be on a weekend (my partner is still working from home full time so can’t look after the kids whilst I go) which is when I assume there will be more police about. My mum is at home with my dad so not alone but he’s not one for getting out on walks etc due to a bad leg and hip so she loves the fact it’s getting her out the house. She’s said she’d be willing to travel half way, I know it’s not essential but it’s like we’ve lost a part of the family (so dramatic I know) I’m just in 2 minds :/ maybe I could wait another 2 weeks and see where we are with lockdown?!

It sounds as though your mum is benefiting from having the dog.

It seems a bit mean to take away the reason your mum is getting out of the house. Personally knowing she's being loved and looked after I would leave the dog there. Definitely wouldn't do a 3 hour round trip just now though, the risk of accidents etc wouldn't be worth it for me.

Breeders are allowed to deliver as its their business. People shouldn't be collecting puppies

I think the fact that you judged it as a no when lockdown first happened is reason enough for it to still be a no. Nothing has changed.
