Is your cat out all night?

Mine is only 8 months and at the minute I shout her in around 11pm.

I sometimes feel sorry for her and I'm not sure I'm doing the right thing.

As she's still young I don't like to think she could be crying to get in.

Doesn’t she have a cat flap? We put our boy out and he can come and go as he pleases!

There was a period where I was waking up to dead squirrels/birds behind the utility room door every morning though so I started blocking the flap and he was out all night. She would be fine being left out.

Ours is 10 months and I like him in about 9pm, he comes back about that time anyways and then just chills. We're going to get a cat flap at some point though as I'm having to get up early to let him out in the morning for the toilet

Really hope we don't end up with presents too though 😩😂

louise5754 · 22/04/2020 11:25

No. We have a fairly new build (well 10 years) I've be been told we can't have one in the front and we have patio doors on the back.

You’re doing the right thing keeping her in at night. She is much more likely to be killed by a car at night. Keeping them in at night is what the CPL recommend too.

January February I sat inside with the back door open for her lol

Plus she's fully black

Mine is in at 8/8:30pm - I used to let her out later, but that changed when she was attacked by a dog.

ClientQ · 22/04/2020 11:28

Nope, no cat flap and he is in all night
I don't want to risk him being harmed by some horrible person or a car

louise5754 · 22/04/2020 11:31

If she didn't want to come in do you think she just wouldn't?

She seems fine by it and comes upstairs and sleeps. She isn't crying by the door like she does during the day.

We get ours in at 10-11, she used to be out all night until her sister was run over and killed at about 5am. She seems fine with it, she gets some time out in the dark stalking things then she naps in the airing cupboard before coming for a cuddle at 6am..

I'd like for her to be able to come and go as she pleases but to me it just isn't worth the risk to her. If we move somewhere quieter I expect we'll let her out overnight .

And you can put a cat flap in a glass patio door, ours is.

celtiethree · 22/04/2020 11:49

Never let ours out at night, it protects them and also limits the amount they kill!! Ours have been happy enough typically going out in the morning and then towards the evening. Must have been doing something right as the older ones are 21 and now mostly sleep!

We have a cat flap but it's locked at night, we set it so they can come in but not go out at about 9. If they aren't in by 10 they are summoned, one likes to dance around in the back garden laughing at DH but so far they've always come in eventually.

Our previous cats were allowed out at night but I prefer knowing they are safe. Have to say, now the weather's better the cats strongly disagree. They are definitely nocturnal.
