Raw bones

I'm researching the best treats for dogs to help with oral hygiene. Raw bones are repeatedly recommended from what I'm reading and I'm sure I could ask at my local butchers. My dog has never been fed raw before. She has kibble and wet food. Is it dangerous to introduce raw bones as the occasional treat? Is there anything I should know? Thanks Smile

I don't let my dog eat raw bones or animal bones. They can splinter and rupture the gut. I tend to give them yak chews.

Raw bones are good, cooked ones are dangerous and can splinter.
If it’s just for cleaning the dog’s teeth... give him a carrot. Just take the top off and he’ll chew his way through the carrot. It’s good for them.

Asks the butcher for marrow bones. They love getting the marrow out of the centre.

Pigs ears are good for teeth and safe to digest

Dogs are designed to eat bone so technically it's fine as long as it's not a weight bearing bone, which can splinter. However dogs that are not fed a raw diet won't have the right stomach acid to digest bones which is why some dogs have problems with them. I'd highly recommend a raw diet. It's much easier and cheap than you think.
