Are my cats just being snobs?

About 3 days ago I ran out of cat food and obviously I couldn't just nip out with current circumstances so just for that evening I split a tin of tuna in water and a tiny bit of leftover salmon and sprinkled with their usual dry food. Now for the last 3 days neither want to eat their food! Both cry in the morning like they are hungry but soon as I put their food down they aren't interested, to the point where my boy is going out and eating what he can find and this morning has been sick! What can I do?! Their current wet food is whiskas in jelly 1+

Yeah i reckon so. My cats used to turn their noses up at Whiskas but they have now realised it's that or nothing and soon gulp it down 😂

You could try microwaving their food a bit? Or sprinkling a bit of cheese on? Not that I have ever done such pandering shit. Ahem.

Hannah021 · 10/04/2020 08:21

haha they'll eventually eat it
Are u sure they arent crying out of being unwell?

raspberryjo · 10/04/2020 08:31

Don't think they're unwell, they've always cried for their food in the morning! I'll try the cheese Wink thanks!

Course they are!!

They just had luxury food of pure fish. Cat food is shit compared to that GrinGrin

If it does continue on though, maybe look at getting a more expensive kind with a higher meat content

Weedsnseeds1 · 10/04/2020 08:42

They're just being cats.
Mine is throwing full on tantrums because I am limiting his favourite freeze dried duck breast treats and forcing him to eat the despised ( but perfectly acceptable before he discovered duck breast) treats he got huge quantities of for Christmas Smile

raspberryjo · 10/04/2020 09:27

Haha, well this has tickled me greatly just to learn that they are throwing strops! Thanks all Grin x

Mine try's this on every time I switch from Sheba in gravy. I've even tried naicer stuff, but no! Has to be Sheba, and gravy, heaven forbid you accidentally buy jelly Grin

He actually swipes at me, then hurls himself to the floor, wailing!

My DH put some sardines he didn't like out for the fox last week and a passing ginger cat scoffed them. Next day it was back, hands on hips, demanding more. It's what they do. Smile

Owning cats is a battle of wills...

I think you mean 'being a slave of our feline overlords' Grin

raspberryjo · 10/04/2020 11:20

Haha cats are such divas who knew, so I should persevere with usual food or go for something else?

OP posts:
NW2SW · 10/04/2020 11:33

Persevere, if they've eaten it once... I would avoid leaving it out to spoil. If you normally have a set routine, stick to those times and remove any uneaten food 20-30 mins after setting it down. They should learn to grab it whilst it's there

NW2SW · 10/04/2020 11:34

And I wouldn't overcompensate with biscuits either, especially if they're a firm favourite. As it's tough to get them off them.

iklboo · 10/04/2020 11:59

If you normally have a set routine, stick to those times

I'm sure ours can tell the time. Even with putting clocks forward / back they start mithering for food at exactly the same times every day.
