This is one of 2 that were supposed to be boys (bought from Pets at Home - they do not guarantee gender - you have been warned!) so were put in with our existing boys. We never meant to breed them!

The other one looks to be pg too but is only half the size so will probably have standard 3-4-in-first-litter.

Anybody want one??? (Hopeful )

Oh sorry, that was to MrsW!

I am great-granny apparently - DS2 is grandpa. Yes, he is thrilled!!!

I used to keep rats for a few years, and ime you can usually tell the boys from about 6 weeks, as they have quite large, torpedo-esque b!ll!cks...
Make sure you separate the baby males from the mother once they are 6 weeks old (but not earlier), or you may end up with another litter!

P.S. I'd love a couple of bucks, but am due my own litter (of one) next month. Dh has put his foot down.

Oh frisby, I know, I do feel stupid! But these are dumbo rats, smaller and daintier, so I naively thought that they must have daintier (to the point of invisibility!) testicles too . And the shop said they were boys...

(We did wonder why the older boys got so excited when we put them together and kept running around sniffing their bottoms - but then dogs do that too, don't they! )

Oooh, and good luck with your own litter

Thanks!
You're right: my bucks used to dry hump each other all the time.
Maybe Pets at Home would take them off you once they're weaned? Or you could just accept the fact that you're destined to be a ratty slave for the next two or three years!

In his bag, fio? Ew - I bet his books had interesting stains!

Well, they have to be separated at 6 weeks and then can go to new homes any time after that - why don't I call your bluff and come to visit you with a couple in October!

(I'm joking of course - not that I wouldn't love to meet you and yours, but it's a bit far for a day trip - very thoughtless of you to move so far away you know!)
