Candle wax in cats eye?

My mum was getting rid of the almost burnt tealights when she dropped it and it splattered everywhere - including on my cat. Luckily, he didn't have much on him at all. I managed to get it all off with some baby wipes and a flee comb. He started rubbing at his eye and scratching his ear and had some in the very outer corner. He had a tiny speck of wax next to his tear duct so I wiped it off. A few hours later i saw more by the tear duct and then again. I'm convinced some went in his eye. He is absolutely fine apart from being very annoyed at me for cleaning him so much. Is this serious? I don't know whether I should take him to the vets. If I have to, will he be okay for a couple of days as I have to work? Anything will help

Yes, you need to take him to the vet immediately. He is probably in agony.

He will definitely need to see a vet, you don't know what damage it may have caused his eye.

BillywilliamV · 22/11/2019 06:14

Yeah, let the vet take a look.

BondJayneBond · 22/11/2019 06:16

Yes, get him checked out by the vet. Hot candle wax could cause a burn to the eye.

MaxiPaddy - I really don't think he is. I don't want it to irritate his eye more than it already could have. He's acting normal and even playing so if he was in so much pain, he wouldn't want to do anything. Thanks though

Catnidge - yeah I don't know if it entered his eye from the splash or if it was next to it and fell in. Thank you

BillywilliamV and BondJayneBond - thanks for your insight and help. I'm going to try to take him today, but I'll see what work says. He seems absolutely normal and nothing else has come out for a few hours.

Unless he's obviously in pain I'd watch and wait.

They'll just wash his eye for him. Best to be on the safe side.
