Help, mummy of 4 day old kittens gone missing [sad]

She has been going out since having them on Wednesday, but only for 5 mins at a time, hasn't been using the litter tray I had left out for her. She went out at abot 9pm this evening & I haven't seen her since. Since getting pregnant, she had been staying out most nights, which I wasn't happy with & tried keeping her in but she would just sit by the door & cry & cry 'till I let her out but had been in every night since having her babies.
There are 3 of them & they are fast asleep at the moment, how long before they miss their mummy? [sad} How do I feed 4 day old kittens? I am hoping that she will turn up soon but any advice would be gratefuly received, surely she will start 'leaking' like we would & remind her to come home??

ok ive got some just gotta wait for dp to upload them for me cuz i havent a clue how

alfielooloo · 20/08/2007 19:14

We haven't been handling them much really as I was told that if we did then their mum might reject them cos of the different smells on them? I think I have been more paranoid about these kittens than I was with my own pregnancies! Also, when I pick them up them mum isn't too happy & cries so I have to put them straight back in. Dc can't wait until they can play with them

its fine!! ive been handling mine since they came out? all mum will do if you put kitten near her is lick so her smell stays on them!! These kittens actually hate me and hiss at me everytime i walk in the room! although they are ok if i pick them up, its strange

iliketosleep · 20/08/2007 19:19

be afraid of them when they are older as they will tear you leather sofa to pieces though but its worth it, my sofa has literally been murdered by kitten claws but its so worth it watching them playing and fighting and arching there backs and walking on their sides.....

LazyLineLegilimens · 20/08/2007 19:35

I remember when my two were tiny. I came downstairs one morning and they seemed to be gone, I was terrified that they had escaped, I walked up and down the street calling them (yeah, cause that works with 9 week old kitties).

It turned out they had sneaked under a tiny hole into the back of a bookcase and were curled up together asleep. Awwww. They hate each other now

alfielooloo · 20/08/2007 20:19

Oh no, not my leather sofa! Their mum did enough damage when she was little & couldn't quite jump onto the sofa & so would hold on & pull herself up, but then more often than not would slide down while her claws were still clinging to my poor sofa

but they are worth it have you convinced dh to let you keep one yet?

alfielooloo · 20/08/2007 21:44

I think we will be keeping one yes & I think we have a home for another one which only leaves one. It would be nice if they could both go to someone I know, I'd rather not advertise them if I can. Don't even want to think of them going at the mo they are my babies, how can I even think of giving them away?

Glad everything's OK. at thread turning into a debate on weaning, though. Perhaps you should try kitten-led weaning - chuck a mouse on the floor and if they don't kill it, they ain't ready?

iliketosleep · 20/08/2007 23:17

aww i was like that with the first litter, they didnt go till they were 16 weeks and then i blubbed like a baby lol hope they are still ok!!

Mellowma, just saw your new photos, your new kitten is adorable and your boys are so cute, and as to your dh.... well lol. Snoop does look like a little jack russell in that photo, have you seen my profile, Sasha is quite tall and a lovely, soft, dog who just loves to sit on your knee!

LazyLineLegilimens · 21/08/2007 07:38

Awww you should keep all of them! I have these odd thoughts sometimes about having loads of cats

Mellowma, you were posting early this morning lol. Hope you are settling into your new house, poor Sasha has been going through her first season, poor little thing didn't know what was happening to her, she had a few close calls with dogs but I made sure she was on her lead and I carried a big stick too! Did you manage to get a voucher towards the cost of having Snoop neutered?

Browny · 21/08/2007 09:29

Oh, forget to say, we had a puppy visit lately and Sasha went into 'mummy' mode, even laying down and trying to feed it! Then she pestered the poor thing by following it everywhere trying to give it a wash! It was very cute, so I can imagine what Snoop is like with your new kitten .

Two seasons already , Sasha went off her food and just pulled and barked like mad when we took her out, I resorted to putting her back in the car in the end as she was barking so loudly and annoying everyone there .

£135 for the operation and I didn't know about her being on a foster list, have you had that much trouble with her? We've been really lucky with Sasha, I'm sure she thinks she's one of the kids!

It is really sad, but you know that I've noticed Sasha being really lazy and weeing in the house a few times since she's be in season, it might be something to do with that.

Sasha has also had a few accidents upstairs too, I think she gets really excited because she's managed to get up there, the safety gate is usually locked at the bottom, but now and again someone leaves it open and she darts up there.

As to the nighttime wees, we've always put Sasha in her huge crate at night and when we leave the house in the day too, she has never had any wees or anything else in it, but she is dying to go outside when we come home/wake up . Maybe you could try a crate?

It's so funny, Sasha absolutely hates the rain and water of any kind, you'd laugh if you saw me standing in our tiny back garden holding an umbrella with the rain hammering down, it's as if she thinks I'll only go out there if you come with me!

I hope the long chain helps and maybe the operation will make her not want to go walk-about so much, it's amazing that she hasn't found a handsome male dog and isn't expecting after all her expeditions .

Oh, are you on facebook by the way?

iliketosleep · 22/08/2007 09:19

hey alfielooloo how are the little ones getting on? Has mum gone awol since??

alfielooloo · 22/08/2007 19:07

Babies are doing just fine thanks, they get cuter every day
Mum went awol again last night for about 3 hours but I didn't panic, just thought to myself she will come back when it's feeding time & she did, babies didn't even still while she was gone.
How are your kitties doing?
