Dog has cancer in his paw :-(

My 10 year old cocker spaniel has had a swollen paw for a few months now. He had operations as they thought it was something stuck in it, a grass seed was removed, they blamed that and we thought it was ok. It swelled up again and he had another op today. They found a cancerous lump :-( they said there is some left but they are hoping his body will either fight it off or if it grows back they’ll just remove it again.
Has anyone’s dog had anything similar?

my dog had cancer in the toe a few years ago they amputated it and hes fine, it hadnt spread

@chipsandpeas That’s brilliant news. Obviously not about him losing his paw but about him being alive and well. Did they check to see if it had spread elsewhere? As they haven’t mentioned that to us and I thought they would. Was amputation offered as soon as they discovered it? It hasn’t been mentioned to us but I’m wondering if it will do if the results of the testing isn’t good. They know it’s cancer so I’m not actually sure what exactly the test results will tell us.

Sorry I meant losing his toe, not his paw x

he had scans to make sure it hadnt spread and all was fine
we opted for amputation before we knew it was cancer, it was a sore that just wasnt healing and after a few months of trips up and down to the vets this was the next option they amputated then tested it seen it was cancerous then offered the other scans

I don’t know why having a scan hasn’t been mentioned. I have every faith in the vet but I am starting to worry. Especially because my poor boy had to have 4 operations before they then realised it was cancer.
I’m going to mention having a scan to check it hasn’t spread and at what point would they consider amputation. Is it too big of an op for an old boy though Sad
