Has anyone regretted getting a kitten?

Dcat has been here 3 weeks this week. She’s gone from kind and loving to an absolute beast. We play with her for a good 2-3 hours a day when she’s awake. We had da bird, scratching posts, mice etc yet she runs around constantly, biting our feet, and just being extremely hyper. Especially in the evening/before bed. I feel like I’m constantly playing with her.

She’s lovely and I love her but I think I rushed into it without really thinking about it.

She’s not going anywhere but I want to know I’m not alone 😩

I think you should get her a playmate! One cat is never enough Grin

namechangaroonie · 03/11/2019 17:54

No!!! I love my Dcat but we got another kitten in feb and it’s been HELL. So much energy! He’s constantly attacking the older cat and she’s so stressed she’s walking round growling. I’d forgot how hard work kittens were, but the affect it’s had on my big cat makes me regret it :(

Foxton20 · 03/11/2019 19:27

I don’t think I realised how hyper a kitten is, like all most all day! Especially in the evening and morning when it’s the most tiring 😂

It’s the running from room to room and climbing over the sofas/biting whatever coming in her way!

🙋🏻‍♀️

Current kitten is about my 5th cat. Though only had 2 kittens previously as other 2 were older. I don’t remember any of the others being this bad.

He’s unbelievably naughty. Terrorises the dog, chews through stuff like earphone cables, shoe laces, etc. He has loads of toys and we do play with him. He’s 5.5 months now and shows no signs of improving.

Our kitten is 4 months. We have had her 2 months. We don't really notice her to be honest. Yes she has her playful moods and will attack our feet etc. We couldn't get her booked into be sprayed until two weeks time so she hasn't been outside yet.
She is currently laid on me. Never had such an affectionate cat. Do your kids mess with her? Mine pick her up and she runs off. She knows she is safe when she comes to me.

Foxton20 · 03/11/2019 19:51

No, they don’t touch her unless she goes to them.

She will completely zonk wince she’s done being hyper, so she’s clearly shattered.

Food puzzles help food balls etc

I've had cats all my life and actually hate the kitten stage. If I ever get another cat it will be an older rescue cat - I don't know why I didn't do that the last time. No amount of adorable cuteness compensates for how exhausting and relentless they are - it's like having an 18 month old on speed except without the nappies.
The good news is that soon they become cats, and cats are great. Hang on in there.

oohnicevase · 03/11/2019 19:57

No but it's like the puppy and baby blues , I have had cats all my life but the most recent two ( now 2) were good but had upset tummies for a while and would leave shit patches everywhere until we got their food under control and it was a nightmare .. I did regret it for a few weeks but I adore them now 😻😻

Wolfiefan · 03/11/2019 19:58

Our first cats were young adults. When we eventually lost them we took on two rescue kittens. It was really hard. Wrecking IN the sofa, attacking the kids, trying to climb the chimney and under the dishwasher. Late nights and early mornings. I did think WTF DID WE DOOOOO!
It passes. It really does. But you’re not alone.

WhoAreThey · 03/11/2019 19:59

I have a 1 year old cat. Got her as a kitten from CP. She is currently sitting on my lap as she's scared of fireworks but this morning she walked dog shit over the house and my bed Angry last week she left a dead mouse on my door mat, and brought in a live frog. In the summer she left many many (alive) slow worms in the house. She bites the kids and me if she wants feeding or you accidentally touch her belly. So YES today I regret it haha

Bringonspring · 03/11/2019 20:01

Crowley I’m glad you posted this. I was debating a kitten now that my children are almost 5 and 3 but have only just got through that baby/toddler part so I might wait a bit longer!

Bringonspring · 03/11/2019 20:01

That should say ‘crikey’ not Crowley

Wolfiefan · 03/11/2019 20:06

@Bringonspring our first pair were soooooo much easier. One was two and her son was 18 months old. (Yep. She had kittens that early Sad). They were young enough to want to play, old enough to behave like cats and not demons from Scratchville and actually came from a family with kids too.
Wink

Fozzleyplum · 03/11/2019 20:08

You just need another one to keep her company.

EveryFlightBeginsWithAFall · 03/11/2019 20:11

No, but then I like it more now I've got Mr Rigby a friend

At that age my girly was nuts but I enjoyed playing with her. I bought some toys that she could amuse herself with sometimes. She is now 8 months old and calming down a bit. She still goes nuts but not all day!

Foxton20 · 03/11/2019 20:30

She’s just scratched dd3 on her face. Dd was laid on the sofa and dcat jumped up and scratched her so fast. 😩

We have one of these, he's an absolute bloody pain in the arse and has always been a grumpy bugger, but we love him, he's 12 this year and we've had him since 8 weeks, he lives like a king too! 🙄

CatUnderTheStairs · 03/11/2019 20:38

We had two, I think it’s easier....keep each other occupied.

thorswife · 03/11/2019 20:55

Echoing above, always get a pair. They just play all day together. Mind 13 weeks, lived with us 4, not one regret x

adaline · 03/11/2019 21:35

Kittens need a friend!

Ours was really mischievous until we adopted our older cat about nine months later.

hartof · 03/11/2019 21:43

I did in the first few weeks, I'd sit there in tears as I regretted it. However we've had him nearly 18 months and I love him like he's my baby. I've cried when we've been on holiday and I missed him, I've cuddled him like a baby. He can be grumpy and as a kitten he would launch himself at my DD with claws out but he's calmed down lots!

NonUrinatInVentum · 03/11/2019 21:47

You need another kitten. If they don't have a playmate then everyone else is fair game! 2 is better than 1 so they have a 3am playmate Grin
