Kitten food a con? Or necessary

I have 2 new additions to our family respectively 8 and 10 weeks old. Feeding them Felix kitten pouches. After a week with us I'm thinking am I being silly? I'm sure there was no such thing as kitten food years ago. Is it really necessary? Normal cat food cheaper. Good quality of course!

I think it is higher calorie, so helps with growth. I'd stick with it I think.

Hello bodgeitandscarper. Love the username! Thank you. How long for? As the older longer feline always appears hungry!

We were told kitten food until neutered.

We did kitten food for a year. Probably could have stopped sooner but she wasn't overweight. Kitten food is higher in calorie for growing cats. It's also given to nursing mums so they can keep their energy up too. If they were on normal food they'd probably eat a lot more of it.

Hi ohh, I usually use it for ten months to a year (a few years since I've looked after kittens though!) If they start gaining too much weight then switch to adult food.

I swapped after neutering as their calorie requirement decreases. Maybe try a higher quality food. They need a lot of food as kittens. I fed 3 or 4 times a day with wet food and left dry out all the time

My last 2 kittens have both had regular cat food, as stopping big cats eating little cat food, and little cat eating big cats food turned out to be impossible.
