Corn snakes? Good pet?

Not sure if anyone remembers my posts about our rescue dog that had to go back to the rescue but some of you may.

At the moment we can not have a dog, dd has developed a fear since the rescue dog went for her and my cat clearly won’t except a dog into the house. My eldest daughter wants to get a family pet and is upset that we can’t get a dog. I grew up with various pets including a snake and would love to have one, dd1 is also keen. Do corn snakes make good pets? Are they good to handle? Also what size vivarium would we need? (Unsure if we have enough space). Dd1 has done a bit of research and probably knows more than me.

Watch the air vents. Put them so they can't be pushed out from the inside
I buy 20 mice at a time then triple wrap them as I don't have a separate freezer for themGrin

Monday we brought home our first corn snake. The snake belongs to my ds (15) and his birthday present. Ds has been asking for one for ages.
We did a lot of research before hand both online and speaking to people. There is a very knowledgeable pet shop with reptiles not far from us who we went in and spoke to several times.

We bought a starter set from them which was a small/medium plastic tank(will size up at around about a year old), heat pad, thermostat, thermometers, water bowl and substrate. Full instructions for setting up.

I have always wanted a snake so I am very happy to care for him alongside my ds.

sven he/she is lovely. We picked our snake up at the weekend, we had a choice of 3 but dd1 wanted a snow corn snake (albino) which was of course the most expensive. The lovely man in the shop let us look at all 3 and let us handle them, gave us great advice. The snake has settled in and has had its first feed, he’s a little bit jumpy when I handle him but I’m guessing the more I handle him the more he will get used to me? Ours is over 4ft long and will probably grow a bit more.

Op make sure the vents are in tight! You may find out how strong your snake is....
Ours tests every new tank for escape routes.
Been out twice!!. Telling the ndns wasn't fun!
