Trying to introduce wet food to my cat

Hi all,
Hoping you can help.
I have a 4yr old female Maine Coon, who I'm trying to introduce wet food to.
Previously she was on only biscuits - Veterinary Dental Royal Canin - so not cheap, but was advised by the vet.
In the 39 deg heat we had last month she had V&D so I took her to the vet, he said she may have over-heated (we all were!). Should add she is (since I split with ex and his big house and garden) a house-cat. She has a drinking fountain and always has fresh water.
Anyway I asked the vet to remove a mat from near her hind leg, he suggested a professional cat groomer who I then asked to come around. She didn't remove much fur saying she was actually quite well groomed but she said I should stop feeding my cat Royal Canin as it has a really low protein content. My cat is over-weight and she said that's because I am feeding her effectively junk food.
She said to feed her morning and teatime wet food and kibble overnight, and gave me a list of food to buy with more protein and less additives. Now I've got her to adopt to the change in kibble but there is no way she will touch the wet food.
2 questions oh wise MN pet owners..

  1. was she right in the change of food?
  2. how do I get my cat to switch to wet food? I've bought a tuna based one as she will actually nibble a bit of canned unsalted tuna..

Royal canin is full of crap and not a lot of meat. What dry food are you using now? Mine like encore and thrive. I leave dry out and feed wet a couple of times a day. Mine dont like the 'good' wet food that much so end up with sheba fresh choice, gourmet perle with the odd tin of encore (they will only eat the fish encore)

And if she wont eat wet food that's ok as long as she is drinking water ok

@dementedpixie I am using Applaws Complete Cat for the dry food, and I've tried Butcher's Classic Ocean Fish (complete fail) and HiLife BIG Tuna (some interest but is not eating) as the we food.
Cat groomer (who owns catteries) gave me a list of high protein foods which aren't the equivalent of McDonalds (Royal Canin).
She's adapted to the new dry food, but said I should only give that to her to graze on at night time (put the wet food out at "hunting times" but then remove after half an hour)
So far I've caved and she's just getting the new kibble...

Should I perservere?

X-post, sorry. So do you think just dry food is okay?

I'm mixing my she and she, sorry! Hopefully you get the gist of it.
Yes, she is drinking a lot.

I think applaws is from the same manufacturer as encore (80% meat). Pets at home do individual tins so you could try a variety of different foods. Mine dont like pate style but yours might.

Ok - thanks for this info. Interestingly she is eating a lot less of the Applaws dry food (in content/volume) than she was the Royal Canin. The groomer mentioned that she will lose weight (which she needs to) eating the former, it'd be a bit like us going on an Atkins diet.

I'm a bit miffed that the vet suggested the RC, we buy it from his surgery. He said it would stop my cat having dental problems... Surely he should know about it's contents? The groomer did say that vets have 1 day training on pet nutrition. Wondering if this is correct (if any vets out there?).
