Surgical spirit, liberally everywhere in the room. Leave to dry and repeat until it's gone. Might take 3/4 lots of it. I put it in a plant mister to spray it.

Nothin gets rid of it. My cat was run over 4 months ago and I can still smell it on a chair!!! Bicarb of soda might work on carpets?

I do know that you shouldn't put anything that contains ammonia on it.

My mum swears by Jeyes Fluid.

"HOW TO CLEAN UP CAT PEE OR POO
If you don't clean it up thoroughly, the cat is likely to go again in the same spot. Clean up when your cat is not in the room. It may otherwise think its marks gets your attention! Consider redecorating after cleaning up if the spraying has been going on for a long time.

Never use bleaches or disinfectants. They smell like urine to a cat, so does anything pine, rose or lemon scented.

Use warm water with ten per cent solution of biological liquid or powder. (Another suggestion is one tablespoon of Napisan AND one tablespoon of biological washing powder to one pint of water.) Then rise the area thoroughly in cold water and let it dry or dry it with a hair dryer if time presses.

Next spray or apply some other way surgical spirit. Use a nail brush to get this into fabric and crevices. This gets rid of the fatty residues that prompt a cat to top up his own marks. Dry this off completely.

Patch-test cleaning on a small area in case it removes dyes from carpets or polish from furniture."

is it possibly on the cupboards? if it's a male cat then they spray against surfaces, so although yu do get it out of the floors it may still linger on the units iykwim.

CescaD · 27/07/2007 13:56

Don't know what the best way of cleaning it is. I tried vinegar but that just left a smell of vinegar and cat wee.

But to stop them going in the same place again pepper is really good. They always sniff before they go and will be put off by the pepper.

CharleeWeasley · 27/07/2007 14:03

Yes it is a male cat i think he is spraying rather than weeing as there is another male cat around.

charleeweasley - someone previous posted re the bio washing powder and surgical spirits and this definately works as it totally destroys the smell left behind that re attracts the cat.

You say your cat is spraying, is he entire? How old is he, you really should consider getting him neutered as this will curtail his spraying and prevent him spreading his seed elsewhere!!!

i would go with biological washing powder ,something nuculear like daz ,it worked when my old cat weed on the sofa
