Cut and paste from my email:

Urgent News from Dogs Trust.
Dublin City Council has recently banned 11 breeds of dog (including Rottweilers, Bull Terriers and German Shepherds) from all their properties, including houses, flats and estates. Existing tenants are being given a chance to rehome their animals, but if alternative accommodation can't be found, then the dogs will be destroyed. It also seems likely that these breeds will be banned from public parks - which means dog owners living in private accommodation will also be affected.
A petition to reverse the decision has been organised by Irish lobbying group ANVIL (Animals Need a Voice in Legislation). So please sign the petition today by clicking this petition here

and please pass this email onto everyone you know who cares about dogs.
To find out more about this injustice, you can visit our DoggySnaps forum here.
As we all know, it's a small minority of irresponsible owners that give breeds a bad name - to punish an entire breed and all its owners is simply ridiculous. We are urging Dublin City Council to punish "deeds not breeds."
Whilst you may not live in Ireland, breed-specific legislation is becoming more commonplace all over the world, so please help us to send a signal to legislators everywhere that dog lovers will unite to oppose ill-informed, cruel laws which punish innocent dogs and their owners.
On behalf of everyone at ANVIL and Dogs Trust, thank you for your invaluable support.

He's a fearsome beast for sure PB .
His friend, Linda, has just had pups Magnolia. A small part of me is ever so slightly tempted as she is gorgeous and so good natured. A large common-sense part kicks in shortly afterwards, luckily
I wanted a chihauhau for ages NBG Hope you solve the Mystery of the Beagle soon. My dog used to lick his paws excessively, but that is because he is an idiot and it just took a short course of that bitter lotion applied to his paws to break his habit

We rehomed our Chihuahua off another mumsnetter
Shes just turned 1. Shes a big chihuahua though at the top end at 11k.

My families signed the petition. My MIL and FIL have a very loving Rottweiller and my SIL has 4 dogs one of which is a Rottweiller/staffie.

winestein · 23/07/2007 16:08

11 kilos!!! That's no chihuahua!

My dog gets on with a couple of lovely Rotties. The thing being they have very lovely owners and it rubs off on the dog. Which is the whole point of the petition. Grrrr at Dublin

I have a Ridgeback, the softest creature alive

In fact my mum told me they did some review of dogs in the Torygraph the other week and ridgebacks came out as the best family dog (or something like that)

OP posts:
salsmum · 31/07/2007 01:28

haha yeah an English blue as oppossed to the Irish sort!

MummyPenguin · 01/08/2007 17:59

I've signed too. I have a hyperactive Labrador and a slightly more sensible Golden Retriever.

I added a comment: "It's ridiculous to ban all 'dangerous' breeds as many of these dogs will have never inflicted harm on another animal or person. This ban will cause great distress to loving owners. Rethink this now!!
