Should I manually lift out guineapigs every day?
normally their hutch has newspaper, sawdust and hay but the new hutch obviously has a hole in the base, for the steps leading to outside

what do others do?

I don’t understand? Do you mean they have access to their run and you think they shouldn’t?

EleanorReally · 07/05/2019 08:13

yes, i would manually lift them??
how would I line their hutch with this hole and steps down?

Do you have foxes? If so then yes I would block access at night.

Line the rest of it, leave the hole free. Hay is less messy than sawdust.
Every hutch I’ve ever had has this arrangement and it’s fine.
I live rurally with foxes and badgers and mine have never been got.

no, i dont really know what i didnt want the run closed, not to do with foxes, just wondered about the lining?
doesnt it fall down the hole, will the gp fall down the hole?

EleanorReally · 07/05/2019 08:26

How many GPs do you have?

EleanorReally · 07/05/2019 08:30

Some lining will go down the hole, that’s why I said hay is better than sawdust. It’s never been a big problem. Guinea pigs have never fallen down though. They just use the ramp.

EleanorReally · 07/05/2019 08:32

thank you, i will use hay then, which they can just eat
