How often do you walk your dogs?

Just for fun!
Come on let's be honest......how many times a day do you walk your dog?
I'm not going to judge, I'm just interested 🙂
I try to walk mine twice a day but if I can't I get one of my DC to do it....
I have a friend who walks hers 4 times a day and another friend who doesn't walk it, she thinks the garden is enough so I was wondering what the norm is.....

When they were young, my JRTs had 3: around an hour before work, one with the dog walker or at doggy day care, then one after work. Now I only have one left, and he's ancient - will be 17 this year. He still needs a good 45mins each morning as he's quite sprightly. He will sometimes nag me for another at lunchtime but not always. I WFH so he's never alone any more. Dogs were about 12 when 2 walks a day were no longer essential every day.

anniehm · 25/03/2019 06:40

Twice but we also have a big garden. Ddog is worn out easily because is chases his ball incessantly

MrsMozartMkII · 25/03/2019 06:41

3 big dogs, all currently walked separately as we're working on aspects of training, with each walked 1.5 to 2 hours a day. Gawd I'm getting fit!

It's interesting that even a half hour walk, on the odd days that's all there's been time for, has them snoozing happily.

Iwantmychairback · 25/03/2019 06:42

One walk in the morning, mostly off lead, lasting 2 to 3 hours. One walk in the evening lasting 30 to 60 minutes.
Access to the garden during the day, maybe a short walk at lunch time.

heidiwine · 25/03/2019 06:54

Oh whippet gets two ‘good’ walks a day. By ‘good’ I mean a minimum 45 mins mostly off lead (and lots of that sprinting after a ball till he gets bored of it). He also gets a shorter on lead walk at lunchtime.
Not sure he actually needs that much but he’s healthy and very fit (according to our vet).

pineapplebryanbrown · 25/03/2019 06:55

JRTs here - in and out of the garden and come everywhere with me.

2 hours off lead late morning then 20 minutes off lead in the evening. It's not enough for them but i have other things to do!

Need a really lazy dog next time.

ApolloandDaphne · 25/03/2019 06:59

6yo Labrador. She gets two on lead walks a day of around 30-45 minutes each.

She used to get longer off lead walks but last year had an op for elbow dysplasia so now she has shorter on lead walks on the advice of the vet.

beenhereages1 · 25/03/2019 07:07

Midweek-

30 min walk at 8.15 - school walk
15 min " round the block" - 8/9pm

Weekend-

9am- round the block
Afternoon- hour over the field chasing her ball etc
8pm - round the block

She's a small young poodle cross. When she's not out for a walk she's usually asleep Grin

Whereareyouspot · 25/03/2019 07:07

Wow I thought I was doing well but wonder if I’m not now?

Terrier- he won’t walk in the morning he’s really lazy and refuses to leave the bed.

Lunchtime gets either a four mile walk/run with me or an hour with dog walker which is more sniffing and socialising than moving as he can’t be off lead.

Evening about 75 mins walk round streets

About every other day we also manage 20 mins chasing like a loon after the ball in a secure field.

I wish he could be off lead on walks but I wouldn’t see him for dust!

SausageSimon · 25/03/2019 07:18

Mine has 1 hour on 3 days of the week, 2 hours one day and then 30 minutes the other 3.

So about 6 hours off lead walking, she's a miniature and is very happy with that!

I'm very fortunate that on the days where I'm working and gets the short 30 min walk she goes up to my parents house and spends the day running about playing with their dog Smile

SherlockSays · 25/03/2019 08:16

Once a day - they either go out for an hour with the dog walker or 30 minutes with us. It completely depends on the dog - one of mine has hip dysplasia so isn't allowed loads of walks, the other is 10 and happy to sleep all day.

MadisonAvenue · 25/03/2019 08:52

My boy, a Collie x GSD x whatever else, gets three walks of 1hr+ off lead each day (unless it’s raining and he refuses). He’s lucky that we back onto an AONB so we go through the woods and over the common.

WildFlower2019 · 25/03/2019 13:47

Once a day.

In winter when it's horrible and I can't face it, 20 minutes.

In other seasons, 30 minutes if were super busy. Most days we aim for 45 minutes.

On weekends in the summer, I love to walk them into town or somewhere for two-three hours because it knackers them out. However, one of my dogs is getting a bit too old for this.

If I'm having a bad MH day, I might not walk them at all and won't feel too guilty about it.

My dogs are rarely left, as I work from home.

My dogs are quite small. Think terrier sized.

adaline · 26/03/2019 07:37

Once a day on weekdays, sometimes twice at weekends.

But we do live rurally. A walk isn't just around the block - we go to the beach, up the woods, around the nature reserve or up across the fells. He's out for a good 90 minutes everyday at a minimum and he has free access to our garden too.

Three days a week he also attends daycare which includes two walks. We don't walk him ourselves on those days.

Doggydoggydoggy · 28/03/2019 14:54

I do mine 5 days a week, 2 - 4 hours each time.
Sometimes she’ll go on full day outings with me, DH and kids in the summer

Bouchie · 28/03/2019 15:01

About an hour in the morning, sometimes two, if I can get DH to take the dc to school.
then between 20 mins and an hour early eve

Bananasarenottheonlyfruit · 28/03/2019 15:03

Used to be twice a day when she was younger. At nearly 9, she is happy with one 45 minute run with DH in the morning. I WFH so she always has company and gets let in the garden on demand.

If I have time, I take her out again in the day, but she isn’t fussed if it doesn’t happen.

DirtyDennis · 28/03/2019 15:06

Twice a day.

Morning walk: sometime between 6am and 8am. On weekdays, I can only take her for a quick 20 minutes. On weekends I try to take her for an hour or so. However, sometimes often she just flatly refuses to move in the mornings because she'd prefer to have the warm bed all to herself.

Afternoon walk: sometime between 3:30pm and 5pm. On weekdays, this is about 45 minutes round the park. On weekends I take her for about an hour and a half round the streets, which she loves because there's a weeks worth of smells. If we're out much longer than 90 minutes, she lies down and has to be carried home.

She's a relatively fit, 6-ish year old border terrier. She is very, very, very lazy and spoiled.

JuniorAsparagus · 28/03/2019 15:07

Rarely.
He's 15 and inclined to over do it, so he mainly self exercises in the house and garden with occasional proper walks. There is usually at least one adult at home with him.
He is not overweight - you can see his spine and ribs.
You asked us to be honest.

Doghorsechicken · 28/03/2019 15:12

I have a border terrier X jack russell. When he was younger he’d get one walk per day about 3-5 miles during the week then get longer walks at the weekend. He’s now 17 and we walk him once per day for 30 mins (not far, it just takes a while because he stops and sniffs every blade of grass). If he doesn’t get a walk every day he gets yappy even now at 17! He’s got a big garden to potter about in but prefers the sofa now!

AngelaJ18 · 28/03/2019 15:21

Twice a day for ten/twenty minutes, she’s a greyhound in her twilight years so she really doesn’t want to go further. When she was younger we’d go for longer walks at the weekends.

Toooldtobearsed2 · 28/03/2019 15:30

2 labradors, twice a day with an occasional third walk if its a nice evening.
We are out at between 5am and 5:30, off lead for around an hour. Then back out at around 9 am (i know, bizarre times) for 10 minute on lead walk to enclosed field, 10 minutes manically chasing balls, and a 10 minute walk home.
Nice evenings, we go to the beach, to a nearby lake or to the pub with them both.
We also have a motorhome and when we are away, you can easily double the length of walk time. And by God, I feel it😶

Aimily · 31/03/2019 11:05

Very rarely, mines a 13 year old chihuahua cross, we used to go for 3x 20 minutes walks once in the morning and evening with me, and then my mum would pop in at lunch and take him out. But over the past 3 years he's been more content going out into the garden or out the front for 5 minutes or so just on the grassy patch out there.
He does come to work with me now, and sleeps all day, old man syndrome I think 😂

Hyacintharehighersincelasttime · 02/04/2019 06:52

two or three times a day,

Hyacintharehighersincelasttime · 02/04/2019 06:55

my jrt is ever ready, she loves her bed but is totally up for a walk whatever the time,
apart from when it is pouring with rain, but even then she gets used to it
