Cat in labour

Toomanychefs · 28/01/2019 10:25

My cat went into labour this morning and gave birth to a beautiful kitten at 9am. There are definitely more in there but nothing else seems to be happening. Should I be worried?

I am not a car expert, but I think that cat labour can stop and start.

AnnoyedByAlfieBear · 28/01/2019 10:28

Also, have you got any cute kitten pics????

Toomanychefs · 28/01/2019 10:29

Her last litter (4) all came within an hour and a half but maybe that was a one off.....

There's no harm in calling the vet for advice

steppemum · 28/01/2019 10:32

I would phone the vet and ask. They will probably make you an appointment for later eg 4 pm if nothing else is happening.

From other threads on here, it is quite possible that there is 20-30 minutes between kittens, don't know if it can be longer.

Are the kittens left moving?

Toomanychefs · 28/01/2019 10:52

They're moving. She seems a bit restless now. Keeps moving away from the kitten. Waiting for call back from vet

steppemum · 28/01/2019 11:48

totally over invested in live birth thread.
come on mummy cat!

Toomanychefs · 28/01/2019 11:58

Still nothing. Can see movement in her stomach so vet says waiting game....
Little one is eating for England though!

Lovely Op 💕💕💕💕

reallyanotherone · 28/01/2019 12:07

How long ago was her last litter? How many litters has she had in total? How old is she?

Birth can loosen the ligaments irreparably in some cats. Mine was 18m and dumped at rescue when she could no longer pop out kittens.

Toomanychefs · 28/01/2019 12:19

She has only had 1 litter, 9 months ago. Unfortunately she is allergic to anaesthetic or I'd have had her neutered with my others. I'm more stressed than I was when in labour myself!

SneakyGremlins · 28/01/2019 12:32

Is there another way to do it? Not judging OP! Just wondering!

StepMug · 28/01/2019 12:40

Op, not to scare you but I had a similar thing with my own cat a few years ago. A long labour, seemed to still be pregnant but no more births. If turns out that her birth canal had collapsed. I’m not sure if it was connected but then she actually never started lactating!

The whole thing was petrifying but definitely keep in touch with the vet!

WatcherOfTheNight · 28/01/2019 16:50

Hope all is well Op ? Thanks

Toomanychefs · 28/01/2019 17:59

Still nothing. Kitten is feeding well, the ones inside are moving nicely and mum is happy. Vet says give it 24 hours after 1st one

My (Greek stray) cat once gave birth in my place and she was quite old (probably her 99th litter). She only had one kitten. There were no more!
(It came out backwards and landed in my fur hat).

Waveymaevey · 28/01/2019 18:44

There are multiple different types of anaesthetic for cats - what happens if she needs a csection - it’s irresonsible to allow her to breed repeatedly. And as she has other kittens inside and they don’t come she will need surgery to remove them and potentially they and her could die if she is just left?

If she is entire then she should be inside and away from males. Do you even know who the father of the kittens are?

There are thousands of unwanted cats and kittens in rescues!

sweetkitty · 29/01/2019 11:14

How’s your cat today? Any more kittens?

I agree with other posters once she’s had this litter you must find a way of preventing her having more.

steppemum · 29/01/2019 22:08

@Toomanychefs how is your cat today?
