We got him yesterday and he was paper trained, so i have put paper in the kitchen where his food is but he has been weeing in the living room. Ive been trying to watch him and see if he looks like he is going to wee then take him to the paper but i cant watch him all the time.
The kitchen is just next door and the doors are always open for him?

he's a baby and it's unfamiliar surroundings. He's bound to improve soon. Just carry on with what you are doing, and make sure you take him out int he garden after meals and he'll soon get the hang of it.

Chopster · 19/06/2007 08:41

Oh and it might be worth blockign off wherever it is that he has taken a fancy to peeing.

fifisworld · 19/06/2007 08:49

Thanks but he's peeing everywhere not just in one place.
Im not too fussed that he's ruining the carpet tbh as we are moving in 2 weeks but i want to get him used to going on the paper until he is able to go out.

do you not have a garden? We've always trained ours straight to the garden and then paper at night to begin with.

No, we are moving from a flat to a house in 2 weeks.
He is having his 2nd needle on thursday and i think can go out a week after that.

Thanks for that Speccy.
We were supposed to be in our house by now but its been held up by 4 weeks so really we should have been in there by now.
I will try and leave the bottom sheet of paper down for him for the scent and see if that helps.
I keep taking him to the paper when he looks like he's going to wee but he walks away, altough he did have a few on it last night when he was in there for the night.
I am planning on getting a crate as soon as we move, we dont have room for one in here atm.

I've got a 16 week old puppy and found crate training him at night and when I'm out in the day has really helped. You can get special sprays to use on the carpet that will help get rid of any odours where he has wee'd, get them from a pet shop or large supermarket. Mine has now only had a couple of accidents in the last fortnight so is now almost there, but it took about a month, I just learnt to keep a really close eye on him, especially when just woken up, or just eaten or drunk, and praise him loads when he does get it right.
What sort of puppy have you got?
Is there anywhere outside that you can take him to get him used to the idea of going outside too? A friends garden, or isolated field where dogs rarely go, it could help a bit.

He's a boxer puppy.
Theres grassy areas round where we live but there also a lot of dogs round here and mil just lives round the corner but she has a dog as well. i'll just have to keep an eye on him until next thursday until he's able to go out.
Theres a picture on my profile if anyone wants to see him.

Ahhh boxers are lovely. Is your mil's dog vaccinated, if so you could take him to her house, its good for him to visit different places and meet other adult dogs (who have been vaccinated and are healthy) while he's little, the key socialisation period is 8-12 weeks so its good for him to get as many new experiences as possible. My puppy used to ride in the hood of my pushchair before he was fully vaccinated so he could get used to traffic etc. dd thought it was very exciting! Have you signed up to a puppy class too? I've just started going to one and its really useful, you just need to make sure its not one where the puppys just run about madly or they can become bullies apparently!
My puppy is Rhubarb, a nova scotia duck tolling retriever, I'll have to learn how to put a picture on my profile.

fifisworld · 19/06/2007 12:59

yes her dog is vaccinated, we could take him round there tomorrow when she is in from work and get him used to her dog, as we'll be taking the dogs out together sometimes as well so he will need to get used to him.
