Dd2 wants one in her room, as does Ds.

Dd2 is 7 and ds is 4.

Is it a good or bad idea ??

Not suer but ours is int hedining room and blardy noisy with the poump thing. Wouls keep me awake.

Well the ones they want say they are quiet, or are they just saying that ??

So far I have told dd that she has to keep her room tidy for a considerable length of time before i will even consider it.

Ours is in ds1's room. Doesn't keep him awake as he's used to it now.

not a bad idea, I considered it for DS but decided that cleaning the tank and changing the water would be a PITA if you weren't near the sink.

Thanks

She has now tidied her room, but I have said I need to see that it can stay that way before I make my final desicion.

so it won't be going in there then, if she's anything like my DD!

Personal choice - but I wouldn't. Also depends on if you are aiming for goldfish (ie coldwater) or tropical tanks.
Have you had fish before? I'm guessing that what you are looking at could be smallish tanks - which are harder to maintain the water quality in. You should consider the water changing aspect of the tanks - carting water around upstairs, or even taking it upstairs can be a pain if not hazardous!

I would advise doing some research on the sort of set-up you are considering before agreeing to anything. And be aware that pet shops that sell a few fish are not always the best source of advice. Specialist aquatics shops tend to be better.

FWIW - we were in exactly your position a few years back, and after looking into it we decided to go for a bigger tank that we would have downstairs so that we (the adults) could monitor what was going on and we could all get the enjoyment from it.
