I need to find a young guinea pig that needs a home to keep my little 3yr old male gpig company because he's now on his lonesome....

Had to have William, my 3yr old gpig pts yesterday due to ill health. This leaves his brother, Henry, who is desperate for some young male company - Henry and William used to cuddle up and I've given Henry a cuddly toy to snuggle up to but I think he's sussed its not the real thing!

Anyone have any young gpigs that desperately need a new home? I'd just like to find Henry a new friend that is younger than him and do not want to go to a pet shop etc.

I live in Hants. Help!!

search in your area for rehoming centres. they might be able to help

Would second the rescue centre. We had a 6 month old who needed a pal. We got a 5 week old male gp to keep him company. Apparently any older than that and they fight!

Thanks for that....I've just got my husband out in the garden at the moment converting a very large hutch into two by putting a wooden mesh divide half way and we're going to put Henry in one side and his two friends in the other half so that way he won't be on his own anymore but there won't be any risk of fighting. I was that worried about getting another pig because I've learnt male pigs can be quite territorial when they get older and I don't need any more vets bills!!! William, the one who was pts'd yesterday cost just under £200 for his treatment. Henry does seem to get on quite well with two girls I've got - he's quite happy running up and down the run I put them all in (with divides) so I'll try him with the women first and then maybe the men if it doesn't work!!

I've worried more about this little chap than I have my kids today! Isn't that awful! I can hear Social Services knocking at my door!!!

its best to get a female. females are accepted easier. Also yes it is better to get a youngster but it still may not work out. You must be prepared to house them seperately in case.

Definately get advise from rescue centre.

Hi and thank you....Henry is an entire male so I can't put him in with a female and I certainly don't want/need babies! If the division idea in the large hutch doesn't work or if he starts to get miserable then I'll go and get him a young (few weeks old) friend. Fortunately Henry is a very placid g/pig so he'd take quite well to a younger one. Getting a younger one from a rescue centre is quite hard to do because they tend to have older ones for rehoming and I don't want to go to a pet shop or breeder but then again if it keeps Henry happy then I may have to.
