I've always had just 1 cat at a time and had no problem with cost. I'm looking into getting 2 kittens this time round but was interested to see how much their cats cost them p/m

Oooo erm 20 quid for dried, 12 quid for wet, advocate around a tenner and about 8 quid now for insurance. Then daft shit on top like dreamies. Then Provender every few months which is another tenner ish rounding up those.

gamerchick · 14/09/2018 15:55

*profender

RedneckStumpy · 14/09/2018 15:55

$1.88 for a bag of dry food per month. No insurance or other costs.

gamerchick · 14/09/2018 15:56

Soo around 50 quidish. They're not cheap things to run.

NoSuchThing · 14/09/2018 15:58

Around £80-90 Shock (food, insurance, medicine) plus annual vaccinations, worming etc. She’s an older cat with long term health issues that require daily medication and prescription food. These potential costs didn’t cross my mind when she was a kitten, but can’t be helped...

Magik1 · 14/09/2018 16:00

Don’t forget also cat litter, annual vet checks, flea treatment , toys, birthday presents Grin etc

LooksBetterWithAFilter · 14/09/2018 16:01

I am £4 a month for the only litter my kitten will grace it’s bottom with thank got it’s the cheap one fussy madam. £12 for wet food, about £15-£20 on dry food, £10 a month for the vet plan thingy so that covers health checks, vaccinations, file and worming and a couple of other wee bits and think insurance is about £10 too it’s with the dogs insurance so not sure of the exact figure. So what’s that just over £50 a month. It’s all in dries and drabs through the month so it doesn’t feel like that much hadn’t ever thought about it until today.

Threeminis · 14/09/2018 16:02

Maybe £8 ish on wet food per month. I buy dry food in Costco so maybe £15ish for a couple of months. He goes outside but we do have a litter tray for emergencies - maybe change it once a month.
£5 for insurance

theunsure · 14/09/2018 16:04

Fecking loads!

We have 3, 2 are insured - that's £34pm

Cat litter £40 ( as they are fussy buggers that only like Catsan and are currently housebound due to moving house and living on a building site).

Dry food - £10ish
Pouches - we have to buy 2 types (as have one elderly cat on special diet) £60ish
Then the elderly one has a joint supplement and medication - £15pm

And then on top of that there is worming, flea, vaccinations. Worming and flea for the 3 of them which I reckon costs about £500 a year.

So roughly £160pm and that assumes no other vet bills.
I have a small flock of chickens though so I factor in £200 in the budget for the pets and another £600 for the blinking horse

I love my fur babies dearly though.

theunsure · 14/09/2018 16:07

Sorry I didn;t edit post properly - I think £500 for their flea, wormer and vaccinations per year.

They have Profender for wormer, Bravecto for fleas (as only needs to be given 4x a year).

MrsRubyMonday · 14/09/2018 16:10

We have 3 cats.

Dry food £30 a month.

Litter £40 a month.

Flea treatment £20 for a 3 year supply for all three so negligible.

Insurance £15 a month for the three.

Kemer2018 · 14/09/2018 16:11

Roughly £20;per month. Just over half is for healthy pet club, vaccs, flea and worming covered.

Kemer2018 · 14/09/2018 16:15

But the cattery costs £9 per night for our holidays abroad.
So approx 20 nights as we have crappy flight times.
So £180 ÷12= £15 extra per month.
So really, 35 pcm. Hmm may not get another

RepealRepealRepeal · 14/09/2018 16:16

I have four. Two indoor, two outdoor. So about 10-15 a week in food, 5 on treats, 2.50 on litter. About 5 a month on toys - only the littlest plays with toys. 10 a month on cat nip - big cat is a drug addict. Plus miscellaneous vet, wormer, etc. Although, I'm a farmer and they count as pest control so some costs are offset in my farm accounts.

theunsure · 14/09/2018 16:16

@MrsRubyMonday
I wish I could get away with the cheaper flea products. Sadly 2 of mine are very allergic to some of the flea drugs like Fipronil and Imidacloprid (found out the hard way - projectile cat vomit).

LapdanceShoeshine · 14/09/2018 16:18

3 cats here.

3 big boxes of Felix = £30pm
c 1/3 of a big bag of Royal Canin vet care biscuits = £16pm
A very small amount of Oko Plus litter - the last 40L bag I bought (£24) was 6 months ago & it's not finished yet so that's about £4pm. (They don't use it so much in the summer though)
Insurance for all 3 (aged 6, 5, & 3) is currently about £23pm - was £21 last year but it shot up on renewal, I've increased the excess to bring the DD down. Young cats are cheaper (once they're neutered & chipped)
Annual boosters, check-up & worm tablet about £55 per cat, £14pm for all 3
Flea stuff is done a bit randomly here so I've no idea. The 2 smaller ones get Advantage which is £9 for 4 pipettes & I tend to only do them 3-4 times a year. The big cat that kills & eats things gets Advocate, which is c £20 for 6 pipettes plus prescription cost (£14 from my vet) but I don't even do him that often.

Anyway that's approx £30 per month per cat plus whatever flea stuff they get. (& occasional collars, toys, food bowls & teeth biscuits Smile).

Maybe £35 per month all in.

LapdanceShoeshine · 14/09/2018 16:22

oh, forgot about holidays.

Cattery used to cost a fortune, but there are no nice ones near & 2 of them hated going in the car to the lovely one 30 mins away (puke, poo, wee Shock), but luckily I found a nice lady locally who comes in twice a day in return for a donation to a cat rescue she volunteers with. (& if she can't do it a neighbour does, that's even cheaper as I water her garden when she's away!)

weelis02 · 14/09/2018 17:04

Thanks for all your replies. Starting to think maybe I should stick to just 1 kitten for now Confused
