He's coming from a breeder and i have been to see him 3 times since he was born and get regular emails and photo updates but i cant wait to get him home.
I have a 13 month old ds so i was wondering if anyone has got any advice or tips for Boxers or for having puppies with babies?
My ds is used to being around dogs as mil has a big dog and he doesnt seem bothered by him at all.

no but my friend has one and she is lovely

she loves going in the car and shopping

My Gran has had staffies for years and although a diff breed, one thing we found very good was to buy one of those big dog cage things - if you haven't already. Both of her dogs learnt that was their haven if things got a bit too much for them and so would be a good idea so that if little one a bit hyper around dog, dog has somewhere to go that it knows will get peace etc...you can buy washable vet beds to go in there as well which absorb any wee if they have an accident when toilet training and they can be machine washed

HTH - and any names yet? Boxers are cute!

Please tell me he still has his tail. Boxers look lovely with their tails. They are very friendly dogs. They get on really well with children. I would never leave the two together on their own though. As much as I love dogs, I would never ever totally trust them.

Yes he still has his tail as he was born after the law changed.
I will definatley look into those dog cages. We are moving from a flat to a house the week after we get him so i will have to wait until then.
Havent got a definate name for him yet. Dp has only seen pictures of him as he was working when ive been to see him so he said he wants to wait until he see's him properly before he makes his mind up, but he quite likes buster.

I can't tell you how good the cages are - you can close them as well so stops puppy wandering out at night and when they are small, they have space for sleeping in them and space for weeing in them...my Gran bought hers over 10 years ago and its still in use for staffie no two who likes to chew the bars and go in there and sulk when grandparents are eating and not offering her anything from the table!! Now she is older, the cage is open all the time, and its her secure zone...they are pricey but very worth it

My friend used to have a boxer called Buster . He was a bit of a giddy kipper but also very loving. He came from a family friend who have always kept boxers and have a big family with loads of kids.

kittylette · 04/06/2007 13:43

OMG!!

no advice just major, major

haggisaggis · 04/06/2007 13:46

Take him to dog obedience classes as soon as he is old enough - boxers are great fun but mad as hatters and really need training!
THey love people and really crave affection - so respond well to training.

fifisworld · 04/06/2007 14:27

Ive put a picture os him on my profile if you want to have a look at him

that has made me sooooo

hes beautiful!!!

haggisaggis · 04/06/2007 14:33

He looks very like how my mum's old boxer looked as a puppy! She was a brindle too (but didn't have a tail - poor dog - she'd have loved having a tail to wag!)
I am very jealous. I would love a boxer but dh doesn't like them.

NikkiBFG · 04/06/2007 14:35

Awwww!!!! That is sooooo cute!!!! Looks like a Buster actually....or I quite like Ted...don't ask me why..but think would suit him!

ThisIsDavinaPleaseDoNotSwear · 04/06/2007 15:25

buy a crate and gently introduce him to it

buy lots of disinfectant and kitchen roll, he will pee and poo everywhere

start saving old newspapers and carrier bags

don't expect to get any sleep for first few night as he will howl the house down (but don't give in)

buy the Dog Listener book by Jan Fennell and implement it religiosly

Also consider the 'nothing in life is for free' philosophy, especially as he gets older and tries to establish a higher ranking within the household (because he will try!)

start as you mean to go on

he looks lovely btw - bless him.

I grew up with boxers they are fab and mad. Never were trained but completely adored.

My prents have one now and as I already had ds when they got him he is really used to children. I trust him forever - mine were putting things in his mouth when tiny - also cawled all over him and now play fight with him and he has never ever ever even warned them off.

He is fab - they are fab.

How wonderful!
