Our cat died at lunchtime and will be in the house overnight - will she start to smell?

Our very old cat died at home about 2.00pm today. Our vet's practice is closed until tomorrow morning so we will have to keep her at home overnight. Can someone reassure me that she's not likely to start to smell within 24 hours of death?

I don't think she will start to smell. Put her in the coolest room in the house in a cardboard box, or even better in the shed.

sorry about the cat, btw

I don't know about the smell issue but I am sorry for your loss. My cat is nearly 13 and I am dreading the day she dies. Could you wrap her in a blanket and put her in the garage/utility room if you are worried?

personally i would put the body outside.

Form our experience, not very much.

Thank you all. We are in a flat so can't really put her outside but she is in her cat box in the cupboard (large walk-in). She was 16 so a good innings and she died quietly at home so if she had to go, that was the way I suppose.

Shouldn't smell but will go very stiff. When my cat died (run over) I buried him in the garden. Sorry for your loss.
