Cone of shame - Any tips?

Ddog2 cut her leg open yesterday and had to have it stapled. We've ditched the plastic cone as she couldn't walk with it on/ kept hanging her head low causing it to drag on floor and bump into everything!! She's now wearing an inflatable collar but overnight she managed to get it loose and remove her bandage and one of the staples 🙈 Any advice on how to survive the next 2 weeks until it heals?

I would have them wear the cone of shame overnight as it's the hardest to get off or get around. (My cat managed it before so we had to attach more card to it to stop him) I would be putting the cone of shame on when they are not supervised- when your out or at bedtime.

Dogs and cats do look really pitiful when they first get the cone and will pretend like they can't eat or drink but they can and learn to cope. Same for walking about they do adapt pretty quickly.

If your allowed to go walkies I would take the cone off for that as it is pretty hard to walk with a cone of shame. The ring one is a lot easier.

When we have had to have one on our dog and cat the vet recommended to keep the cone on as much as possible so they get used to it.

It won't be easy but once your past the first few days won't will be a lot easier

The big plastic cone is the most effective at protecting the wound. We tried others but ddog escaped or got to the wound with them all (comfy cone, inflatable) except for the plastic cone.

Last time he had surgery we took the cone off during the day but closely supervised and never left alone. Cone went back on at night or if he was left alone at any time.

Thank you everyone. We've been keeping it off in the day as she can't walk properly with it on. Then just putting it on at night. Unfortunately because of her shape (lurcher) she is able to get it off over her head, so every morning we come down and it's off!
