Anyone know how to remove a cat's dreadlock?

Hi

I have an 8 yr old fat blind cat (approximately the size of a medium dog) who has fairly long fur. Unfortunately, despite our grooming, every now and then he develops really tight dreadlocks on his sides near his tail which we find difficult to remove.

He hates having this area touched at the best of times, and the tangles are making him even more grumpy than usual.

I would appreciate any advice on how to remove the dreadlocks - is there something I can put on them to loosen them up?

Washer - I didn't want to admit this really but.....we have a cat bag - it's a big towelling sack I sewed out of a bathsheet. Well more a tunnel really. So head and arse are exposed but snarling clawy bits are inside. Then you just have to hold the entire cat under the shower. Once that's done, they are so outraged they just go with the flow once the clippers come out.

OMG stop you are making me cry !!

Your poor DH having to trim his nose/ear hair with those after they have been near your cats bum! I hadn't thought about fanjo trimmers - maybe I can get some of those cheap from somewhere.

I'm pmsl at the cat sack, but might have to give it a go as we've tried everything else.

Your cats sound nearly as adorable as mine by the way - except ours are now banned from upstairs due to frequent early hours vomiting on the duvet (they love to share).

...nothing compared to one of the times he had cystitis and was put on valium after an op which left him leaking wee for a week [blurgh]

Washer, ours both have urinary stones too - so have to have catherisation and decaling every six months or so (personally I think viakal would be just as effective and not cost £2K a year)

DH has NEVER used his nose hair clippers, we think he may be growing a forest.
