hi

i am wondering if someone could reassure me that puppies and young children CAN work. we have just bought an eight week old choc lab named Ben. his role in our household is to be a therapy dog for our little boy, daniel, who is on the autistic spectrum.

daniel is only 2 1/2 yrs and has a little sister who has just turned one. Ben is actually quite good, sleeps in a large crate going through the night, eating and feeding well and playing/sleeping for the rest of the time. the problem i have is with nibbles. our youngest, in particular, is victim to this and I really want to "nip" it in the bed as quickly as possible before she develops a fear (she is used to dogs at childminders but not a boisterous pup). Can anyone recommend anything?

Also, how likely is it that Ben would still have worms? He is 8 weeks, been wormed every two weeks and due for another dose today. I am terrified the children could come into contact with them as the garden is in use now with the warm weather. I appreciate handwashing is the key but toddlers have their hands in their mouths all the time.

i know we will have our hands full with two tinies and a pup but I really could do with some reassurance from anyone who has managed with children.

Many thanks
Kirsty

One sure way is to keep them separate when the kids are eating. It may not train the dog but will ensure he doesnt steal form such little ones.

Apparentaly all puppies are born with worms. You need to ensure you buy worming tablets from the vets not shops.

Dont worry about the worms. Make sure you scoop up poo straight away. I believe it is poo that's been left for a certain amount of time that is the problem rather than fresh.

I have 2 puppies and a 3 year old dd.

Make sure you socialise him as much as possible with as many things as possible right now. THe key time is up to 12/14 weeks.
