Introducing 9yo ragdoll to rabbit

My ragdoll hasn't been around any other animal for 9 years, it's just been him (indoor cat). Do you think it's possible to gently introduce him to our new rabbit that we are getting next week (rabbit will be kept outdoors), or do you think i s going to be virtually impossible.

He's very friendly (dopey) to humans. And he's not scared of anything. But on a very rare occasion he's been in the garden, he's got into a fight with the bossy cat of the gardens.

I've always been told that ragdolls get on with any species as they are so docile.

Am I being silly thinking they could be company for each other? If not does anyone have any experience or tips? ThanksSmile

I read that my british short hair cat got on well with rabbits - but all he seems interested in is trying to catch him. I do not think it would end well if he succeeded. Rabbit is in a very secure run and hutch so cats got no chance!

Could you get another rabbit for bunny ? .. they like company of their own species, especially if he’s going to live outside.
In my experience, animals of different species seem to get on ok together as they don’t see the other as a threat. You could try a gentle introduction ... maybe bring bunny indoors in a cage initially ?
We have dogs, rats, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens and they all get on like they’re the best of mates !Grin

If s cat is going to 'go' for a rabbit will it be obvious. I'd hate for it to look like my cat is fine with the bunny for him to then quickly pounce.

I haven’t had a cat in ages so don’t know to be honest.
What I would do :

Bring bunny in.get a large cage for him and place a toilet ( from pet shops) in a corner for him.put paper in it ... I’ve used kitchen towel)

Take him out during periods of the day and cuddle him/ pat him/ talk to him.
Do this in the presence of cat once cat has got used to seeing him in cage for a few days.

Your cat will see you interacting with rabbit and ( hopefully) realise he’s a family member and accept him.

Having said that we used to have a jealous cat
who would bully our Yorkshire terrier by jumping out at her and swiping her for the fun of it!
I suppose it depends on the individual cat ! Hopefully yours is more laid back and friendly! Good luck!
