Do you have your dog insured??

We have been paying out for insurance for our GSD X since we had her (6.5 years). We have claimed £80 once and had to pay £85 excess. The new quote from Petplan has just come through and will cost £220 this year . On top of that the excess is £95 now. I think we are better off binning the insurance and saving the monthly amount in a separate account.
She is a rescue dog and so is about 8 or 9 so I guess it is from now on things go wrong, but she is so healthy and mongrels tend to do better than other breeds don't they?
Anyway, back to my question, do you have pet insurance and if so why and if not why not?
TIA.

If you get sued and have no insurance, if the court finds in the claimant's favour, then you are liable to pay it. Depending on how bad the injury your animal caused, it could be a lot of money. So say some eejit opened a gate and let my horse out of her field, and she wandered onto a road and caused an accident, we could be talking megabucks. I'd rather pay for insurance.

Years ago, I hit a dog when I was driving, because someone opened a gate and the dog ran straight into the road. fortunately I was going slowly 'cos I was lost, and neither the dog nor I were hurt. But even a dog could potentially cause a nasty accident. I was actually more worried about the dog than about me, but these days some folk just see £ signs, sadly.

But if I hit a dog or a cat I would expect to pay for the vet fees not sue the poor person who owned the animal. Well actually I prob wouldn't expect to pay but you know what I mean....

We used to have pet insurance when d2 was a puppy because there was so much chance of her doing something really stupid and requiring big vets bills. With 2 dogs though the costs were very high so we cancelled the insurance. No regrets.

I was told that you aren't legally liable for anything your cat does because cats can't be controlled. But dogs you are liable.

We'v got the dog insured not the cat basically because we love the dog and couldn't look the dcs in the face if we didn't fork out for operations if she got hit by a car or whatever.

cat is a nasty scratchy grumpy mog and we have decided she gets max £300 of emergency treatment or we do the deed if its more.

at 'cat's can't be controlled'...According to a friend of mine, dogs have owners but cats have servants!
