Rescue cat or pedigree?

Has anyone got experience on adopting rescue cats and how they adapted to young children? Or would it be better to have a kitten? I understand cats scratch occasionally and that's fine but obviously one that doesn't get stressed out by young children as that would be unfair to everyone involved, especially to a rescue cat who possibly already has had a bad start in life.

Also if you want a particular breed there are societies for rehoming almost all of them. People who buy cats as ornaments are more likely to abandon a pedigree so there are more than you'd think (but not kittens). Just Google the breed and "rescue".

Rescue. Mine is, and I think he's the cuddliest, most affectionate cat I've ever met. He sits for hours purring at me, gazing, or with his head wedged under my chin
He scratched me once accidentally, ran off and hid because he thought he had hurt me Hmm

Thanks everyone, we have definitely decided on a rescue cat. I haven't contacted any rescue places yet, I think we'll wait until end of summer to get holidays out the way so that we can be home with the new family member. I really hate waiting though but no choice really as we have a holiday booked already. At least this gives me time to buy all the stuff and find a rescue centre. I'm so excited!

BBK, I never expected to have any type of pedigree. But fell in love with a photo and the rest is history! A total Persian convert.
