they are crying for there mother, been shouting of her for over an hour, normally she'd come running. they are hungry, how long will they go without her?

Oh dear
No advice but am bumping this for you.
Maybe she's just having a little me time? Have you had a look for her?

J20BABY · 29/04/2007 22:03

i can't really leave the house as dd in bed, i know its possible she may be out looking for boy cats again, and i've got her booked in to be speyed, i should really keep her in but she hates it and goes mad to be out, i think she's a bit disturbed actually, she's been eating cherry scones and pineapple today, that she stole! the thing is, i'm shattered and was hoping to be in bed by 9, don't really know what to do

Give them some milk through a syringe or something similar, hope nothing happened to their mummy.

NotanOtter · 29/04/2007 22:08

you need to ring a vet and get some cat formula pretty quickly! give them some water in a syringe for now. warm water bottle under a towel to nuzzle up to and ring the vet,,,

Busybean · 29/04/2007 22:10

oh bless, poor little things, second the advice below

tinpot · 29/04/2007 22:12

My friend took in an abandoned kitten just last week, so is it advice on feeding them if you're left with them, or what to about her not coming back?

If it's the former, she rang a veterinary service who recommended that she feed it on special kitten milk when they cried for it. Apparently you also have to stimulate their bottoms to make them poop (she rubbed wet kitchen towel on to simulate the mother's tongue) - yuk!

I would imagine they will be ok 'til the morning at least without the mother (my friend didn't know how long the kitty had been abandoned before she took it in). If she doesn't come back good luck with the feeding and pooping!

J20BABY · 29/04/2007 22:13

do i need to do it now?

they have settled down and are now asleep, so maybe she knows when they are ready to be fed and will come back soon. short of standing on the doorstep for her, i think i'm just going to have to keep them warm and wait for her, if she isn't back soon, i'll ring the vet

my stray cat who had her kitten in our house used to regularly feck off for hours after the first week or so.

she was nutter though so not sure how relevant that experiance is, she eventually legged it with the kitten when he was a month but he's a fine healthy 2 year old now so he was fine despite the neglect

my dad used to say they did it on purpose to prevent the kittens feeding constantly

is it possible she went hunting? does she have enough food at home? a nursing queen needs constant food to be available

hope she turns up soon

J20BABY · 29/04/2007 22:20

she's got lots of food, she just seems to prefer uncat-like food and bumble bee's to cat food.

OP posts:
SusanStoHelit · 29/04/2007 22:27

lol, don't they all!

my cat turns up his nose at cat food but will eat spagetti... go figure!

i wouldn't panic too much unless she's not back by morning.

rememebr, cats in the wild would have to leave the kittens all night to hunt and they're just fine

J20BABY · 29/04/2007 22:30

really? so they'll be ok for the night?

hope so, cos i'm going to bed soon. i'll put them in my room and if they start kicking off again, i'll go shout of her again.

should be fine, does she have a cat flap to come in if she turns up?

if she's not back by morning though pop to the vets and get some kitten milk and a syringe and brace yourself for a few weeks of sleepless nights!

mishw · 29/04/2007 22:34

Oh dear, poor you and the kittens. I once had to look after 3 kittens when there mother died.

You need to contact a vet to get some special kitten milk and I'm afraid your good nights sleep is out of the window as they will need feeding as reguarlay as a newborn baby! Either that or the vets maybe able to take them in for you, but that of course will cost you (no idea how much I'm afraid, this all happended to me when I was a nanny and the family were away)

Good luck and let us know what happens

J20BABY · 29/04/2007 22:37

thanks all, no catflap, just have to keep getting up and shouting, it couldn't have happened at a worse time neither, i'm shattered and at work tommorrow and i have to go as i had fri off sick. oh well, 4 kittens under a desk isn't unheard of is it

will keep you all posted

OP posts:
J20BABY · 29/04/2007 22:38
