Blimey, what's wrong with our cat?

He's just come in, and left some blood on the kitchen floor. DD tried to pick him up and he yowled loudly and ran off (not like him.) I found him in the lounge washing his tail, I got dowmn on the floor and had a look at him but couldn't see where the blood may have come from. DS said that the cat wouldn't let him pick him up earlier today either.

Don't know what could be wrong.

Could he have been in a fight?

MummyPenguin · 28/04/2007 19:09

That's what I thought, he does have the occasional scrap.

If he is tender to be picked up it might be a good idea to have him checked out, if a dog bit him he could have some infection too, or internal bleeding. Does he eat when you feed him?

SweetyDarling · 28/04/2007 19:26

Think about what you would do if he was a dc...hmmm think you should take him to the vet!

Millarkie · 28/04/2007 19:30

My cats sometimes get 'puncture wounds' from fighting (other cats, dogs, don't know) - our big cat is a softy and will lie down so you can see the holes We take him to the vets but so far they have used a 'wait and see' approach and he's always healed well (no antibiotics etc)

beautifulgirls · 28/04/2007 20:10

Is he able to urinate? If you are not sure you should contact your vet and get him checked out. The blood may have come from a urinary infection and possibly have resulted in a blocked bladder. Most likely is a fight - but then even that should be seen by your vet anyway.
Good luck

I thought the same as beautiful, My cat is prone to urine infections and the first sign is blood on the floor. If it is a urine infection, you will notice him cleaning his bits lots, and trying to pee in strange places. He will only be able to do a small amount. If he gets blocked it can be fatal, so please keep an eye on him, and if he stops peeing, he needs a vet asap. Don;t want to scare you, btw, just want you to be aware

or run over - look for damaged claws where he has tried toi grip the tarmac and very large pupils (shows he is in shock).

incognitovet · 28/04/2007 20:37

would agree with all of the below... and i am sitting here at work just waiting for you to bring him in!

Any news on the cat?

MummyPenguin · 29/04/2007 13:29

Thanks all. He seems okay now. Has been asking for food, although doesn't seem to have eaten it, but that may be becuse I bought him some Iams yesterday as I'm going to take him off wet food as I'm always throwing it away, so perhaps he just doesn't like the Iams. He does like Go Cat so I'll put some of that out and see if he eats. Haven't noticed him peeing or not peeing, but then you don't with cats do you? Unless they do it in the house which he never does. No more blood so that's good. Will keep an eye on him and see how he goes.
