How old is my kitten?

So I saved a kitten from the wild a few days ago, and guessed he was about 12 weeks old, but I’m starting to wonder if he is younger, he only has 4 teeth, 2 on the top, 2 on the bottom, his eyes are still blue, he is tiny, but I’ve not weighed him as he is super skinny from living outdoors, anyone have a guess on how old he could be?

I’ve called him Eddie (after ed Sheeran because he’s ginger) and sorry WolfieFan, I am on low income, I get £57 a week as I got written off work, when I got paid last all that money went on things that he needed to live

Also I have checked him for flees, and he doesn’t have any

The issue is this stuff isn't doing the job, could be dangerous and you don't know how old the cat is. It really needs to see a vet.
I'm sorry you're on a low income. That's rubbish. But you can't use that as an excuse not to seek appropriate veterinary treatment. If you're on certain benefits PDSA may help. But you can't not treat a pet because of lack of funds. Not ok.

Knittedfrog · 25/10/2017 18:47

He looks about 8 weeks. He’s gorgeous! Thank you for rescuing him and giving him a home.

Julieelizabeth5 · 25/10/2017 18:50

PDSA won’t help because I’m not on housing benefits or tax credits, he is booked in for Monday, that is 4 days away, there’s nothing more I can do

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 25/10/2017 18:51

See if they will take a payment plan.

Julieelizabeth5 · 25/10/2017 18:53

I can’t get in until Monday!!

OP posts:
Wolfiefan · 25/10/2017 18:54

You've said you can't afford it until then. Vets do same day appointments.

Julieelizabeth5 · 25/10/2017 18:55

Okay 👌

When you say you “saved him from the wild”, how do you know it’s not an escaped pet? Kittens are little buggers and he could have got out accidentally.

Have you tried to find an owner? Put posters up? Or just thought cute kitten, i’ll keep him?

Julieelizabeth5 · 25/10/2017 18:57

There was 2 others, and he was filthy

I think your doing a lovely thing taking him in Smile good on you x

silkpyjamasallday · 25/10/2017 18:58

The OP has done a kind thing and you are all laying into her about not taking him to the vet, I'm sure if the OP saw the kitten getting ill or acting differently she would take him in for emergency treatment, but four days isn't too long to wait. She is doing her best I'm sure.

What happened to the other two kittens OP?

Pollydonia · 25/10/2017 18:59

He is beautiful and your doing an amazing thing Smile

Julieelizabeth5 · 25/10/2017 19:00

The other two went to a lady that has other kittens that she saved

hunibuni · 25/10/2017 19:01

Look, OP's done her best and berating her for not doing exactly as you would wolfie is kind of a dick move, although you're probably thinking you're helping. She's said loads of times that it's booked in at the vet and she followed the advice she was given at the pet shop. Better some temporary treatment than the poor thing being left starving etc.

GrandDesespoir · 25/10/2017 19:02

I'm really sorry to ask this, but how can you afford to keep a kitten if you only have £57 a week to live on? I spend hundreds of pounds on my kitten in the first few months and a lot of what that money was spent on was essential, or at least highly recommended.

Effendi · 25/10/2017 19:03

You'll go to heaven for rescuing a kitty.
Wolfie give the woman a break eh?

Julieelizabeth5 · 25/10/2017 19:04

Because I will start to get more in the next few weeks, if I thought I wouldn’t be able to afford him I would’ve gave him away too, but I know I’m gonna start getting more money soon

Wolfiefan · 25/10/2017 19:05

I'm sorry but vet treatment is part of owning a pet. Some OTC have killed pets. Didn't want to scare monger but there it is. It's shit but if the animal is at risk and you don't see a vet you're not in a position to have that animal.
It's not being a "dick" to worry this kitten could die due to inappropriate treatment of to suggest a payment plan. But thanks huni

Julieelizabeth5 · 25/10/2017 19:08

It has more risk of dying in the wild than it does in a home with me where I’ve gave him temporary treatment, recommended by specialists until Monday

OP posts:
CatchingBabies · 25/10/2017 19:10

The frontline spot on could be dangerous if he is less than 8 weeks. People are not having a go they are trying to prevent the OP potentially making a dangerous mistake when a very young kitten actually needs a vet.

CatchingBabies · 25/10/2017 19:12

And pets at home staff are unqualified sales assistants, not specialists.

Wolfiefan · 25/10/2017 19:14

Temporary treatment is fine. The issue is that the stuff you used could be dangerous.

hunibuni · 25/10/2017 19:15

OP enjoy your new kitten! We ended up with one too after my friend's daughter found him in her wheel arch after a storm. We have a dog and it was initially only going to be a temporary situation until his owner was found. Put up flyers and popped over to the vet where they told us he was around 6-7 weeks and likely from a feral colony that is being fed by the people in the residential home close by since they had a spate of kittens around the same age being brought in from around that area. Dog took to him and now they can't be separated. He's due to get chipped and neutered soon, so far he hasn't cost loads since he's just as happy playing with a bottle top and he insists on sleeping on top of the dog. Grin
