How allergic? A bit of sneezing or a full blown asthma attack?

I think you are completely bonkers!

Boco · 02/04/2007 23:03

Some cat hair causes more of a reaction than others, but can't remember which way round it is - coarser or finer - might be worth finding out.

I have a cat and am allergic, but i have adjusted so my symptoms are gone right now. If i go away for a few days, when i come home i get wheezy and sneezy again - you'd have to live with that.

are you allergic to all furry animals or just cats?
maybe he'd be ok with another sort of animal. what about a rabbit? then it'd be outside at least

VeniVidiVickiQV · 02/04/2007 23:06

FFS DONT DO IT!!!!!!!

Get him something that you know none of you are allergic to.

Yes! I am VVVVVVV allergic to rabbits.

Get a rat.

hairymclary · 02/04/2007 23:10

actually you can house-train a rabbit. they will go to the toilet in the same place all the time, so you can get a litter tray which it will use.
at least the poos areeasy to clear up if it does do them elsewhere though lol

I think you also need to think though, if you did get a cat and you really couldn't bear it howe would he feel if you had to get rid of it again

zephyrcat · 02/04/2007 23:10

I'm allergic to cats and have had cats all my life!! If they scratch me the scratch swells up and itches like mad and they make me sneeze and my eyes itch. When dp and I moved away we both felt lost without cats so we got 2 but it turned out that they possibly gave dd asthma, so just be wary of him having the allergy too as it's heartbreaking to tell them their cat has to go!!

Hilllary · 02/04/2007 23:12

Crazy, you wont be able to stand it, have to get rid of the cat and break your dc's hart in the proceeds, get a tortoise or a goldfish

I think that you would bitterly regret exposing yourself to an allergen on such a regular basis that you could exacerbate your risk.

I am very allergic to cats but thought that an 'outdoor' dog would be fine and would make my kids v. happy after they lost their dad. Very unfunny when the constant exposure to dander put me into shock.

Unfunny indeed. Do not do it. Get some goldfish.

generally speaking, the bigger they are the more docile they are and that's certainly true in my experience.
so something like a british giant would be fab, and as big as a cat anyway
