17 yo moggy with kidney disease - now just relieving himself anywhere. Can't wash, appetite ok but very muddled (dementia). Regular vet check ups so I knew this day was coming Sad

Flowers so sorry to hear that. Be strong. It's better than him suffering

We may know it is coming, but that never makes it easy. So sorry Flowers

Hi wtffgs I know exactly where you are coming from, today I had to say goodbye to Digger my lovely 9 year old cat with CKD and it's such a sad thing to do. Please can I offer you a tiny bit of advice, I found a website after googling CKD called Tanya's cats and it's such a help especially when knowing if now really is now, please check it out, it gave Digger an extra 9 months. Can I say that Slippery elm in water really helped, I also got Liquivite liquid cat food from ebay and bought frozen mice (in various sizes) from petsathome as well as kitten feeding syringes to aid him when he needed it. Also instead of going on a drip at the vets to aid rehydration which when I tried it cost me a fortune (had to pawn my jewellery) as he wasn't insured, we tried Sub Q fluid injections for hydration, ranitinitine injections (for nausea) and vitamin jabs was a lot cheaper and affordable and kept him going (£20 a week) I knew it was time to let go when not only had he stopped eating (loss of appetite goes hand in hand with CKD), he stopped drinking and last night he stopped purring, the saddest thing as he always had the loudest, most musical, melodical purr unlike any cat purr I'ver heard before and that broke my heart and I knew it was time. He also previous to the sub q injections went a bit senile, weeing in odd places etc, but I used puppy pads where necessary and when he had the injections he was more lucid. Good luck and it isn't easy but at least you've done your best and if its time its time x

Btw thanks Bloomin that site will no doubt be useful in the future when the next cheeky rescue cat finds his/her way into my heart!

So sorry Flowers We lost our darling old girl last Thursday due to lymphoma. It was the best thing to do, the right & loving thing for her. We've all cried lots and I miss her so much. I know already we will get another cat/cats as the house doesn't feel the same without a feline influence!!
