Pancreatitis for over a week, should I prepare to say goodbye to my dog?

That's it, nothing else. Has not been able to eat or drink since sunday last week. Has been in a drip for 3 days, they let her come home yesterday and after a mouthful of rice she has been vomiting all the night . Took her back to vet today and he kept her in, he also said that there's not much else to be done but to keep her on a drip and see if her pancreas heals itself.

Hope it all works well (although already a bit worried about her new diet... she is as allergic as my DS .

Guess this is one of the days when in terms of allergies I feel like crying out loud why me??? although I guess that if the dog had not developed these allergies we would have never know how allergic DS was and how bad those things were affecting him.

Guess I will be forever grateful to this little dog and her vet.

chandra if it's ID they're giving her ... it's vile horrible stuff that a lot of dogs don't like on its own - tinned food with the consistency of glu . once you get her home, would be worth mixing some of that food with plain boiled chicken and rice. This will help her regain some of the weight she's lost, will also make the ID more paletable, and will make it last longer - it's hidiously expensive.

My dog now eatsJames Wellbeloved, it's glutin free and hypoalergenic, so she's far less likely to react to that than some of the other foods. will prob be a few weeks before she's back on to "normal" food though.

Unfortunately she is allergic to everything with wings, lamb and beef, so chicken is well out of the question and therefore the food (I think it was I+D but I'm not sure). In three years I have been trying to find a food that didn't make her sick after a few days, the only one that has worked is Burns Pork and Potato but... vet was concerned that being pork it may have more than the recommended 4% of fat . Have rung Burns this morning and they said that no dry food would have less than that, so.... have been discussing the possibility with the vet and unfortunately dog may end up in a diet of rice and boiled egg (but just the whites)

Glad to hear your dogs getting better. Have you tried fish? my dog loves fish and has a pretty sensitive stomach - chicken is too rich for her but boiled rice with some tinned sardines/mackrel etc. she loves and its great for her coat too.

Thanks you for your posts

Unfortunately she is also allergic to fish, she can have rabitt (as long as the tin is low fat and carrot free-dream on Chandra...)I know the perfect tin of food is unlikely to exist and I can't bear the thought of cooking a rabitt
