Cat pooing everywhere - HELP!!!!!

Ok very long story but my friend adopted a cat of mine about 18 months ago when I moved 230 miles away. Was very upset and didn't want to leave her but know she wouldn't have been happy with the move situation.

Anyway, she had been pooing ocassionally in inappropriate places, but recently it has got out of hand and my friend can't cope with her anymore and basically wants rid! Her partner has a baby and they can't let her go on the floor cause the carpets are stained.

I am too far away to take her, and as I said she would hate it here anyway.

My friend has called local rescue places and noone will take her (not even mentioned the pooing but said they are full). She has asked me what I want her to do????? HELP!!!

I would suggest she takes the cat to the vet to get it looked at. In case it has a health problem that means it can't control its bowel movements. Then, whilst she is there she can ask the vet whether they know of any places/people locally who might be able to take the cat, as she is finding it too hard to look after it in her situation (with the baby). Vetinary surgeries often know of other people who take in animals or people who might be on the look out for a new cat. Firstly though, she must make sure the cat is fit & healthy so please get her to get the cat checked out. Good luck!

Cat is def fit and healthy! Has been thoroughly checked and nothing physically wrong! Which is good obviously, but just makes the pooing all the more baffling!

Maybe the cat is attention seeking a bit. Mine did this when I had just had dd1. Maybe your friend could try making a bit more of a fuss of it? Get her to pop in to the vets though, just to ask about re-homing if her partner is determined that they shouldn't keep it. What a pity you are so far away. I bet you feel awful now. I feel for you.

when mine did this i locked her out for a couple of days till she'd got used to pooing somewhere else, since they are creatures of habit you have to break the habit, getting mad with them can just make it worse...

Better to train them if you can, otherwise they poo in neighbours gardens and neighbours kids (mine) suffer.

My cat did this cos of cystitis and a spur on her spine(only discovered with xray) making it painful to go into litter tray. she is ok now.

I forgot to add the really bizarre bit- my friend who is a healer "saw" the spine problem when I rang her before xray results. She sent healing down the phone and cat recovered instantly! I then found out about spine thing. Cat was going to be put down if pain continued cos wasn't something they could fix.
Maybe my friend could help your cat???

Is there a litter tray? How often does it get cleaned? Has your friend changed the type of litter recently?
