I think my cat might be dying

She's 19. Tonight she's wobbly on her legs and her eyes look a bit funny. She's lying at the moment in her favourite spot but breathing is a big fast and uneven. Also twitching from time to time. Dh says she's going on for another two years but I have a feeling and going to sleep down here with her tonight,

Thinking of you & if it is her time to go, then I send you both love & am grateful that she will pass warm and loved Brew

Flowers OP but it sounds as if she needs urgent veterinary attention. She'll likely be distressed and confused. Fast breathing can be a sign of stress or pain. Please call your vet

LTBiscuit · 23/06/2017 19:48

I second getting her checked over by a vet Flowers

Pringlemunchers · 23/06/2017 19:49

She is and always be loved, but please get her checked out , she may have fluid on her lungs etc. Xxxx

TheVoiceofDoom · 23/06/2017 19:49

She isn't distressed or I will phone someone to come. It's not fast fast, just different from usual.

Another one saying please call the vet. Flowers

Tbh with an animal that old it's probably kinder to let her slip away at home. What is a vet going to do?

FoxSticks · 23/06/2017 19:54

19 years is a long time to have a pet, she must be a very important part of your family. Thinking of you and your lovely mog Flowers

YesItsMeIDontCare · 23/06/2017 19:54

Please get her to a vet. A few years ago my little girl cat was unwell, I knew she was dying and I thought she could go peacefully at home. Oh dear god no, it was anything other than peaceful and by the time I realised just how distressed she was it was too late.

The miaow when she died will haunt me forever and I have sworn blind that I'd rather a week too early than ever ever put an animal through that again.

Please call the vet OP, I'm so sorry you're going through this. Flowers

MsMims · 23/06/2017 19:55

Please seek veterinary care urgently. It's not fair to leave an elderly animal in that condition, and it's actually not that common that they just 'slip away peacefully'.

If it's her time, it's kinder to have PTS than leave her gasping for her last few breaths. There should be a vet who will come to you if you call around.

MsMims · 23/06/2017 19:57

Cross posted with you Yes

TheVoiceofDoom · 23/06/2017 20:02

I can't take her to the vets because she hates going anywhere and that would definitely see her off. I will get them out if things worsen. I live in a city centre so this won't be a problem.

Give her an overdose of anaesthetic so that she dies peacefully. Natural deaths sound nice on paper, but in reality usually involve a chronic state of dehydration, pain or multiple organ failure. They're usually anything but kind.

FoxSticks · 24/06/2017 08:38

How was your night TheVoiceofDoom?

TheVoiceofDoom · 24/06/2017 11:34

I took her to get put to sleep just after I posted. Thanks all for making me see sense that I had to do that.

Sorry that she's gone. You definitely did the right thing in letting her die with dignity - it was the last act of love you could have given her.

Dolceandgabbana14 · 24/06/2017 23:48

I'm so sorry. My gorgeous 12 year old was put to sleep this time last week. Like your lovely cat, he was wobbly and his eyes glazed over. He'd had several fits that night and we knew it was the kindest thing we could do. I miss him so much. Take care, I know what you're going through Flowers
