FLEA HELP. AT WIT'S END

Does anyone know of any obscure ways to kill fleas without spending a fortune? I've tried everything under the sun and the little blighters are still alive and growing by the day!! I've tried flea spray, vacuuming with a flea collar inside, steam cleaning, salt, indorex (the latter two have apprently worked for everyone on the internet, except me!) we are sick of getting bitten day in and day out and best yet, it wasn't even our cat that had the fleas!

Any help appreciated GrinBear

Have you tried a flea bomb? That was once the only thing that worked for me when my brothers dog brought them into my house.

hilbil21 · 21/06/2017 17:08

The only thing that worked for us was the council coming out. Cost 76 quid but I was at the end of my tether!

ShatnersBassoon · 21/06/2017 17:08

If Indorex didn't work, you're going to need to call a pest control company. Indorex really does work, so these must be feisty fleas Shock

Maiz7654 · 21/06/2017 17:08

If you do use a flea bomb make sure you cover any fish tanks you have.

BikeRunSki · 21/06/2017 17:09

Get a man in.

I've found it to be the only way.

Cost £70 for a 3 bed house.

libbyliz83 · 21/06/2017 17:14

Flea bombs. They're amazing.

MerryMarigold · 21/06/2017 17:14

I did bombs, but I had to do several over a few weeks. It took a while to get rid. Also constant washing of bedding. Tbh, it's probably quicker and not much more expensive to get someone in.

AdoreDelanoo · 21/06/2017 17:15

We've looked at getting someone in and it comes to almost £200, something we definitely can't afford right now Envy

SoupDragon · 21/06/2017 17:19

What is your cat treated with? Or don't you have one...

SoupDragon · 21/06/2017 17:20

How long have you been treating the carpet etc? I sprayed mine every two days or so for a week after Fleamageddon.

MerryMarigold · 21/06/2017 17:21

Try the bombs then. There are 2 sorts. You can get the ones you light like a candle, or the ones you need to 'set off' and then leave the house for a while (I think those are better). You then need to hoover and wash all the bedding. There are also better and worse sprays - Acclaim is a good one. Grrrr...

I think these ones are good:

I actually took the bedding off first and then set off the fogger so it would do the mattress as well.

RoseVase2010 · 21/06/2017 17:23

Not sure what animal you have hosting them but get treatment from the vets and order a soresto collar, they aren't cheap but they're effective.

MerryMarigold · 21/06/2017 17:23

Sorry, multi post. I set 2 off upstairs and 2 off downstairs. I then followed up with candle ones a week later!

DecisionTree · 21/06/2017 17:29

Hya - when i had this issue i spoke to the vet who prescribed my dog with some medicine which worked a treat - cant remember what its called tho

DecisionTree · 21/06/2017 17:30

Actually i remember now

It was called

Comfortiss

AdoreDelanoo · 21/06/2017 17:38

Hi we have one cat, she has always been treated and has a collar too and we check her regularly never seen any fleas. I assume they have jumped onto one of us and just duplicated themselves, we've had the problem about two weeks now. Going to try the salt method again and leave it for an extra day, see if that does more. If not seriously contemplating ripping out all the rugs and running away lol

AdoreDelanoo · 21/06/2017 17:42

Sorry I meant carpets not rugs! We threw away all the rugs!

SoupDragon · 22/06/2017 07:39

What is your cat treated with? If it's Frontline or something with the same active ingredient it is ineffective as fleas are now becoming resistant to it.

BrianBrown123 · 24/06/2017 12:18

How long do our leave thearly room for when using flea spray.

ThatIsNachoCheese · 24/06/2017 12:26

Treat your cat with advocate and let her go into each room, they will jump on her, bite and then die.
We used a can of indorex in each room, there was no way one could do a whole house.
I also filled plastic tub lids (you know the kind you buy for kids toys?) with water and left them under each bed, each sofa and each table as they jump in there and die.
You have my sympathy, but one day they will just be gone. Your cat needs to be turned into a flea killing machine!

Food grade diatomaceous earth is not expensive. Needs to be from a reputable source.
