Have an elderly cavalier who went into kennels for the first time in years last weekend.
I was up front with the kennel owner and only rang to ask if they would be able to house her in a solitary area as hasn`t had her booster for years. They agreed.
We always kept up to date with the jabs ect until the kids were born and then i know its wrong but we just never got around to it.
Cavalier one died last year aged 14 and her daughter is 11.
The kennels seemed really nice and clean.
Her run was though covered in a sort of shavings or sawdust-really quite deep.
I am wondering if the dust has gor on her chest as it certainly would mine, or if she has indeed got kennel cough.
She was quite for a couple of days which i just put down to sulking.
She was then really "windy "
Last 24 hours she has been coughing. Not much, but when she does anything like walking around ect.
She is eating drinking and wagging her tail, but a bit lethargic.
Her nose was quite warm last night but cooler today.
Is there anything i can do to help before i dash off to vets, who are expensive (its a lot of money to us )
I know i should have kept up with the vacs but tbh our cavs never really went anywhere exept our own garden and they both made a good age.
Sorry its so long

It could be kennel cough, or just an upper resp infection.

However. please please get her checked. Coughing is a symptom of Mitral Valve Disease, something Cavs are VERY prone to. (1 in 3 get it)

We didn't know this and our Cav had a cough for quite a while that the Vet couldnt work out.. until we finally paid for her to go to a specialist who diagnosed MVD.

The cough has a very distinctive sound. My Labrador had it a couple of years ago. A bit like how you'd imagine whooping cough to sound. Almost a honking noise. She may also be bringing up what looks like lots of spit.

We even nicknmaed our Lab Mother Goose while she had it.

Agree with the poster who advised to get her checked out.
It may well be kennel cough, but if it isn't and it is her heart then the sooner treated the better really.
I hoep you get her sorted out and it is just an infection
