I have a final interview for my dream job as a vet receptionist/ vet nurse assistant that if i get could lead to becoming a vet nurse in the future. Its between me and another candidate and I want this job sooo bad. Soo I think tomorrow is going to be tough because its so close, and I was kind of wondering if anyone knew, or could suggest the sort of questions they might ask tomorrow?

hi! Im only a trainee nurse and started as a receptionist. So im quite new.
As i was interviewed as a receptionist to start with they didnt ask medical questions. I cant remember specific questions but the general thing was past experience with customers more than animals, but animal experience goes in your favour too, even just that you have pets. You will probably need a basic understanding of computers (although most vets have their own software) which they will train you on. You need to come across as a people person and that you wont cry when the worst happens to a pet (which happens every day!) you need to have a supportive, understanding manner towards people and their love for their pets but strong enough not to break down infront of them (we go to the tea room if something chokes us)

Makesure you have a goos cv. feel free to egsagerate (not sure of spelling) to make you sound fab! Have someone for a reference that you know will say good things.

This is a customer based job with a love for animals on top. So you can say that you would like to eventually train as a vet nurse but would like the experience of a receptionist 1st so you have a bit of a head start when you atrt training as VN.

Come across, smiley and confident. People person that isnt scared of cleaning up sick and poo and getting covered in hairs and being sympathetic yet strong enough to handle upsetting situations. We tend to find a quite room / area for the pet owners, offer tissues and a cup of tea when this happens.

erm think thats it I will post more if I think of any. Sorry I have rambled on abit xx

GOOD LUCK!

Ooh another thing. Vicious dogs.... We have to put vicious dog in unoccupied room or in car park / owners car. We provide muzzles so we always try to gently enforce that they wear one without offending owner. (not always easy) and warn the vet that is about to see it and any nurses that may help to etc...

Isolate situation.

As receptionist you will be up front running the show, booking appointments and pretty much organising the vets day. So organisatin is a must skill. Make sure you put that across and that you can deal with busy hectic situations.

Also when an emergency comes in, blood everywhere and owners crying and screaming. You grab a vet asap and ask help from any other receptionist, nurse vet. Emergencies are always priority.

Ohsmellyjelly is a vet nurse and has been for 12 years. so she can prob help more than me. xx

It looks like you could be in your interview now, so you probably missed my posts.

I hope you get the job, let us know how the interview went

I'm back. Thanks for all in the info. I worried unnessarily lol. This was the follow up interview as the job was between two of us, and I expected to be asked a lot of questions etc, but it was really informal and just to chat to the team. I think it went really well - time went fast but slow. Like it does when you click well with people and don't want time to pass. I watched a cat spay and a dental and I honestly think it went well. I spoke a bit about my human nurse training and how I wasn't afraid to get stuck in to the dirty jobs and that basically, I'll do anything! Tomorrow is the day.. I hope I got it

I didn't get the job. They said they'd sent my C.V and letter to the other branch about a job that's just come up and said the other branch would be in touch shortly. We will see I guess.
