how is charlie??

Spidermama · 27/02/2007 17:09

Hi Charlie. Have you done an injection yet?

They invented an inhaler but they wouldn't give it to kids and it's all in the very early stages and needs tweaking afaik.

There's really no way round it.

However, once you get the blood sugars stabilised, your mog should start feeling a whole lot better.

charliecat · 27/02/2007 17:56

Hes hiding upstairs now, worried ill stuff him in that box again. Ive to practice the position tonight and do it tommorow.
He came back from the vets, weed for about 3 minutes then drank out of a dirty puddle outside...will report that to the vet.

Awww charlie. He'll need time just to gedt over the vet visit. Poor little bugger.
Did the vet explain to you why he's weeing? It's because without insulin he can't get the glucose out of his blood properly and put it into the places where it's meant to be stored so it overflows from his blood into his wee and out it comes. Also it means he has to make extra wee to get rid of it which is why he's so thirsty.

This will settle down when he gets enough insulin in him to bring the sugar down. Can you inject him while he sleeps?

NotanOtter · 27/02/2007 19:00

does he eat more/less than normal
has he lost weight?

charliecat · 27/02/2007 19:27

hes lost weight (his heads shrunk is my mums words) and hes clearing a tin a day, we swoped from sachets to tins, about a month- 6 weeks ago. And I know he used to waste sachets, but hes eating a full tin a day and bicuits. And still looking for food. But while the biccys are there to be eaten im not giving him any more.
A tine a day is enough?
I asked on MN what other cats ate and they were on 1/2 tins and less!!

dp says sounds very like diabetes
Is that what your vet said?

charliecat · 27/02/2007 19:34

Yep, going to be injected tommorow.

Spidermama · 27/02/2007 22:25

Charlie I've put the needle into myself and let ds put it into me partly to show solidarity, but also because I wanted to know how it felt. I promise you it isn't bad at all. It's a tiny needle and it just goes into the sub cutaneous fat and not muscle or blood. You can't tell a cat to keep still though.

charliecat · 28/02/2007 09:56

awww The cat is staying still and being a gem.

Spidermama · 28/02/2007 12:44

Have you done an injection yourself then Charlie? How did it go?

MummyPenguin · 28/02/2007 16:23

I clicked on this, as my cat has been seeking out water too lately. How much is alarming? He's not like constantly guzzling water, but he has developed a habit of hanging round the sink in the bathroom looking for water.

I've fed him quite a bit today, he's a greedy bugger at the best of times. He just scuttled into the kitchen ahead of me, and I said to him "you're not having anything else to eat today." Then I noticed he was looking at the sink, and I gave him a bowl of water and he lapped at it.

He's 16 months old, and is a black shorthair. Should I be worried too?

becklespeckle · 28/02/2007 16:26

my cats are 9 months old and they love water. they will climb in the sink/bath/shower to get it and knock kids drinks over. I do find tho that they drink considerably more when they have dried food.

charliecat · 28/02/2007 16:38

Mummypenguin, I dont know...erm, my cat was leaving pawprints in the loo from seeking out water, and he wasnt himself, cant put my finger on it, but, he wasnt right. A visit to the vet wouldnt hurt, I guess, except for the wallet lol
