On the advice of the vet, she won't take it though

Mix it up with some gravy so she can lick it up?

I never thought of that! I had it in her bowl with some food but she must have smelt it.
My Ds asked why i didn't just give it to her on a spoon!

Can i just ask why your dog is having calpol?

LOL at the idea of approaching her with a little white spoon!!

She has suddenly started carrying her paw, as though it is sore. She was fine at 9am when i let her out for a pee. Then i took her out at 1, and noticed she was carrying the paw, unable to put weight on it. She isn't yelping, she is letting me touch it, and move it. I phoned the vets for advice, DH is away so i can't get in. Vet thinks possibly one of my mindees stood on her paw, doesn't think it's broken, because she said we would know, the dog would be whimpering and yelping constantly.
She suggested giving her 5ml of calpol for pain relief and if not better tomorrow to try and get her in to be seen.
it's odd how it's just started though. It probably was a mindee staning on her paw, as hte dog has an annoying habit of sleeping outside the living room door.

Have you got a syringe? Ihave given calpol to my dog and cat using one.Sort of jam it in at the side of mouth, keep mouth clamped shut with one hand and syringe in other, then when syringe empty whip it out reclamp moth and rub under chin to induce swollowing,et voila!! must say giving peptobismol using this method did lead to everything being covered in pink peppermint drool.Nice.

Have you got any ibuprofen in? How big's your dog? Our lab/cross who weighs approx 25kgs can have one ibuprofen tablet and that's much easier to get a tablet into a dog.

Vet said not to give her Ibuprofen, just calpol. I got a syringe from my neighbour, and tried to get it in to her. She wasn't keen but i think i got it in!
The boys thought it was hilarious.
Poor thing i don't know what has caused this

Took the dog to the vet tonight. She gave her a good examination, pulling and poking the leg, but the dog didn't react at all, she gave no indication that any of it was hurting her. Poor thing got very stressed out just being in the vets, she has a heart mumrmer and started hyperventilating, then she peed all over the vet.
Anyway she has some anti-infalmmatory medicine to take, and back on monday

I've just read this.
Have you tried scooshing it over a piece of bread or over her dinner?
I give my dog tabs etc wrapped up in a lump of bread, seems to work (mind you, he's a Springer, and not the brightest!).

I think you can get calpol tablets from the chemist. ( For over 6 yrs ) . You could try breaking one of those up and mixing it in a lttle bit of food.

Not easy giving medication to animals , try getting a urine sample from a cat as I had to do earlier in the year !

Hope dog gets better soon.
