Advice on dog rehoming.

I would love to re-home a dog. possibly lurcher/greyhound.
Are there any requirements they look for?

I don't have transport so i wouldn't be able to view any would that be a problem? Would the person who does home checks be able to bring the dog to me?
I live near fields so walking is no problem.

Any advice gratefully received!

Contact them and see what they say. Thanks for the link. We are interested in rehoming a dog and our children have talked about greyhounds quite a lot. I am aware that many of these dogs are abandoned after they retire from racing

We have (3) cats so would have to check if a greyhund was cat proof.

Good luck

Thanks. Yes i will ring them. Was just looking for info to be prepared before i phone.I'm not very good at making calls.

Many greyhounds can't be rehomed with cats. My Mums was awful near a cat but now they aquired a stray he has really taken to the cat! So it is possible!

Greyhounds can be brilliant pets so thank you for thinking about rehoming one.
I've got a whippet/greyhound cross.
They can be nervy/highly strung and need reassurance & lots of love.
Despite their racing, they are actually very lazy and would sleep for 25 hours a day if they were allowed. They DO love to run when they're encouraged but you don't need to walk miles & miles every day.
They're not usually good with cats & small animals as they're bred to chase. IME they are very good with children as long as the children are good with them of course (mine has now started to play with DS now he's a bit older).
They are very very affectionate and love to cuddle

Yes i agree with all that from my experience of my Mum having one. He is a lovely dog and was very tolerant of my youngest DC. His tail was a bit like a whip when he got excited though!

I would have thought most rehoming organisations would want you to meet the dog before you rehomed it - wouldn't you want to meet it to check you liked it? I've rehomed a couple of dogs and met them both several times before I took them home to give us a chance to get to know each other I would've thought this would be a good idea. Couldn't you use a public transport or take a taxi? The last dog we rehomed involved a 100+ mile round trip every time we went to see him - but it was worth it.
Good luck with your rehoming though there are some lovely dogs out there waiting for the right home.

Thanks.
I would ideally like to meet the dog 1st but i'm not worried about how it looks just giving one a good home. The place in the link is too far for me to get to and taxi would be far too expensive for me.

There is one on the dogs for rehoming section that looks perfect for us and is ok with children.

I will have to phone them and see what they say.

The Dogs Trust wanted to talk about the number of hours dog would be left at home, age of others living in the house, where dog would sleep, safe garden, what other pets. Nothing to worry about.
