Hi. Thought I'd reply to help bump this for you but don't know if I'll be much help. We got both our cats from Cats Protection but actually we didn't need a home visit or anything - we just spotted them at a show and took them home! I was pretty surprised at the time I must say. I'm sure they're just making a general check though - it's not quite the same as taking on a dog for instance. In fact I'm not sure exactly what they'd be looking for - probably checking you don't live in an 18th floor flat!

the women did say just to make sure not got any big dogs or lions and hippos in the garden think they just want see what kind of nutters my kids are

We got our gorgeous mog from CPL 4 years ago. We had a home visit - not quite sure what they were checking out. But they do make you sign something to say you'll get the cat neutered. She also asked questions about whether anyone was at home during the day (no), whether we were planning to shut her in at night (yes), whether we'd had cats before (yes) ... and some other stuff which I can't remember. But enough of those answers must have been correct

Our cat came from Cats Protection 3 years ago. We had a home visit done by a lady who wanted to know:

  • if the cat could go outdoors (yes - garden)
  • where the cat would be expected to sleep (anywhere it wanted to)
  • if there was somewhere quiet it could go to get away from the children (upstairs)
  • what kind of cat we were looking for (any cat that needed a home, age not important)
  • if there were lots of other cats in the neighbourhood (yes, lots)
  • if there were any other animals in the house (no).
She seemed happy enough and she gave me a rundown of the available cats. We chose a female that was known to be good with children so went to see her, only to fall completely in love with a fat, grumpy, tom with attitude who has ruled our house with a rod of iron ever since. He was neutered and CP had paid for him to have dental treatment, so I contributed towards that by paying £40 for him (they asked for any donation over £5, if I remember rightly).
