I'v been promising my DD that I'l get her another bunny, she has one already but it was looking sad and was in need of a friend. I took her to the bunny shop and told her she could choose any one she wanted - OMG she fell in love with the most expensive one in the shop. I tried to fob her off with a cheaper one but she broke her hart, I'd told her she could choose any one so I was obliged to get it - not that we cant accommodate it or look after it, must admit its a georgeous bunny - at least it wont get lost under the fence

Is there any MN's out there with a GIANT bunny?

Hi everyone,

I'v decided to give our dwarf lop a new home if anyones interested?

I'v just bought a new hutch so would be willing to part with bunny and hutch for £30.

Anyone interested? Bunny's 6 months old & needs handling but she's a beautiful bunny and used to living outside.

Obviouly she would need to be picked up from Southend-On-Sea.

I've got a one year old giant rabbit. I bout him in August last year and he was born in June. I was told he would grow the size of a small dog and had already been reading round on the net. But I had also been told he was a giant french lop, by the assistant, and knew he was nothing of the sort; he's actually a continental giant. Different breeds of giant grow to different sizes; the french lop is one of the biggest. Ours is silver fox in colour and called zebedee. He is fully grown now and is bigger than our very large cat, but smaller than a spaniel! He is probably jack russel size. We had all his jabs done and he was neutered before we collected him, by the instore vet practice. He has jabs every 6 months to prevent mixy and vhd. He has no bunny friends but lots of toys in his outdoor hutch and he comes in for 4 or 5 hours every night and plays with us and the cats. He's a very happy rabbit who gets fruit, veg, herbs and hay on tap. He will only live to around 4 years of age, maybe a bit more if he is looked after really well, but I love him to bits and would have another one when he dies.

If I were to get a companion, it would have to be another giant, as although he is friendly and placid, he does have a cheeky side ~(he boxes and binkies everywhere), and could end up kicking and killing anything too small. We were told by the vet it wasn't a good idea unless we could house a ginormous hutch in our garden for two giants, rather than a smaller rabbit with him. As it is the hutch is 6ft by 6ft by 4ft with another top section as well.

Hillary, I'm sorry to butt in on your thread but I have some bunny issues I need some advice with.

We bought a lop two weeks ago - she's enormous now (although not the size of our springer spaniel!)

How do you give them exercise when it's been raining and you can't put them in the run because the grass is wet? She seems far calmer and less likely to bite (in my naivety I just assumed they didn't) after she's had a good ole' hop around, but the weather in Oxford lately hasn't leant itself to outside exercise.

We bring her in and put her on the sofa. She chews the sofa. We put a throw on the sofa, she chews that (I don't mind that).

I think it will only be a matter of time before she stops demurely sitting on the sofa and starts running around the living room - how do you find all the bumbles?

And how, with a springer spaniel who chases anything that moves, is it fair to have him whining in the hall because we've closed the baby gate to stop him mauling the run and ultimately the rabbit?

Any advice would be very much appreciated. God, we should have just stuck with the guinea pigs, now they're easy.

And how often do you clean out their hutch? I started by doing it every day but now do it every other day - is that OK do you think?

BTW Hillary, I'm sorry to say this, and I know you must love it, but your rabbit sounds scarey

I think hillary is the same poster as hillls? Unfortunately and sadly she died about a month ago

earlgrey · 29/07/2007 08:02

OMG I'm so sorry. How/why FB? Did she post about it on here?

Tiggiwinkle · 29/07/2007 08:05

I think there was some confusion about that though-it was thought at the time that it was a hoax iirc.

Furball · 29/07/2007 08:06

She was anorexic and left instructions and her passwords with a friend to post here to tell us.

The friend was doubted in true MN style, but obviously we will never know for definate what the actual truth is.

earlgrey start a new thread about your bunny you will get lots of answers....

TiredFedUpNanny · 29/07/2007 11:05

earlgrey, I agree: start a new thread. I am so sorry I dragged this out of the depths of MN hell.

PETS AT HOME SELL THESE SUPER SIZED BUNNIES I THINK THEY WOULD BE THE BEST PEEPS FOR ADVICE.
IVE SEEN THEM IN THERE. THE BUNNIES ARE ABOUT £150 BUT BY THE TIME YOU BUY THE FOOD, RUN ETC... IT MIGHT BE CHEAPER TO BUY A SMALL SIZED PONY LOL . THEY DO LOOK CUTE THOUGH.

TiredFedUpNanny · 29/07/2007 11:58

I got mine at pets at home for 69 but had to get it jabbed and neutered myself; a week or so after I bought mine (they had only been selling them for a short time in there), they increased the price to 150 to include neutering as well. I actually think that is the most sensible thing as many people either can't be bothered with neutering and I think unless you want a specific breeding rabbit, it's unfair to keep it intact.

TiredFedUpNanny · 29/07/2007 11:59

By the way, it is a swizz, cause I paid 40 at their instore vets (companion care) to have him neutered. 69+40 is 129, not 150!! And I suspect they also get it cheaper being as they house these vets in their stores.

TiredFedUpNanny · 29/07/2007 12:00

109 not 129!
