Yes they can get dementia or it could be a problem with her eyesight. I would take her to the vets and get her checked over if I was you.

I've known a cat that had what could only be described as feline dementia. He used to wonder round the house yowling as he didn't know where he was, and after feeding would forget he was fed. Only thing that calmed him was his owner who say'd "Cat (I forget its name) you're fine, go to sleep" or "cat you've eaten" and it used to calm down and often slept when told to.

Maybe something like this would work? If she can hear you, then she might be less weird? And to make life easier for her I would keep things where she is used to them. I would also consider turning her into a housecat, with a harness for outside time, as I would be worried she would get lost, or hurt.

take her to the vets to get her eyes checked, but it could definitely be a form of dementia. our 21 year old went this way. I found it particularly distressing in the end, I;m afraid to say, because she seemed to loose the ability to interact with us - it was as if she couldn;t see or hear us. then, I'm afraid it built up into a permanent state of distress . I hope it is her eyes as the vet might be able to fix that...

poor thing i think a trip to the vets, but prepare for a hefty bill or them just telling you she is getting old. so sad.

oh poor thing
they can get dementia
it's also possible she has had a stroke - this happened to my dog, we noticed when she couldn't find her way in from the garden, it made her disorientated and affected her eyesight.
